Teacher who has been "studying" English for ten years and can barely make a sentence getting frustrated with me because after 2 months I'm not conversational at Korean.

Ok lol.

Every Wednesday and Friday afternoon I endure the worst kind of torture. The 2 English rooms are separated by a sliding door, my desk is at the back of the 1st English room and I can hear everything in the 2nd English room, which the Korean afterschool English teacher uses to teach "Englishee".

She focuses on phonics, or rather "퍼닠스". I'm quite literally listening to my students unlearn the correct pronunciation I drill them with as she reinforces the linguistic marvels of hardcore Konglish.

"How do you spell 'fox' 'epuu' 'or' 'exsue', bery good."
"It'su Pridayee"

She isn't restricted to terrible pronunciation, but rote memorization to the point that students don't think of English
as a means of communication, but rather as a set of sentences each with a particular response.

Lunch was bad, and something gave me indigestion. Same thing for a couple of other students, but they're calling it ate-too-much-itis.

Not sure if this is their name for anything that gives them indigestion or food poisoning, but I hear it a lot around here.

Konglish "overeat" means to be sick to one's stomach; often as a result of alcohol.

Makes sense. Anytime a student has a stomachache or isn't feeling well, and I ask if they're sick or something, I always get the "maybe (s)he overate earlier" as an explanation.

And I'm all like, are you sure? Because you'd think obesity rate here would be worse than, say, in the U.S. right now if people were really overeating to the point of illness as often as I'm given that as an excuse for stomach problems.

Today one of my 4th graders asked me if I was pregnant. Guess it's time to hit the gym again.

I just had my first bad lesson with my favourite class. :'( Not because they weren't behaved, but because I didn't realize the jump in difficulty in the book lessons. The first 2 book lessons had gone really well. The students either found it too easy, or just the right level of difficulty. I thought today, when we started lesson 3 in the book, would be the same, but it ended up being too hard; and then I started getting muddled up and confused, because I thought it would be a good challenge, but not too difficult. Haha. Luckily my co-teacher saved me. And I can redo the lesson the next time I see them (which is in 2 weeks).
I know, every teacher has an off-day (or off-class), but this is still bumming me out a bit! :'(

Why are the Americans so into Politics? They're relentless. Every day they wake up and start half a dozen new threads on a Korean website about American politics. Most of the posters have lived here for 10+ years and probably don't even vote but they harp on about it day after day after day. Would they not be better off back home eating waffle fries with a gun hanging out the back of their jeans in some diner in the middle of nowheresville complaining to the waitress about it all?

None of the other E2 countries ever seem to mention politics from back home.

Today a bird pooped *in* my car.

I was ahead of schedule for a factory visit, so I stopped at a CU for a coffee and kimbap. I went back to my car, rolled down the window, and a little finch-type bird flu in, craps on my dash, and leaves.

Yeah it is weird. And boring. Because every one of those threads devolves into the two entrenched sides saying the same shit. Aurata posting links to some random blog he thinks is gospel. ChesterJim and CDW posting their awful opinions. Gogators squwaking. And Martin acting like a know it all bore.

Hey Americans. Shut the fcuk up. No one cares. Go post on the Hannity forums.

Let me let you in on a secret: Other Americans are annoyed by it, too. It's the same small handful of people doing it every time, and I'd wager the majority of Americans here wish they'd knock it off.

Wholeheartedly agree with this bit, I just don't understand why they're doing it here. There are so many other places for them to go and it just puts people off. Or have it in some weird bit of the website that never shows up on the front page.
