These laws apply only to Korean sites run by public institutions, I believe. Waygook is hosted and operated on private, Canadian servers by a Canadian sysadmin, so the Official Information Disclosure Act wouldn't apply.

Also, I get that you're just joking, but I just want to make sure it's understood that being a mod here is completely voluntary. The only real perk/compensation is the ability to send snarky warnings to troublesome users, many of which have vanished over the last year or two, unfortunately.

this markkrajar job has 3.5 hours a day of deskwarming.  as a once public school teacher,  this will kill all your energy and spirit.  what use is there is coming to a job at 1pm, only to wait 3 hours before your first class?

I can actually answer this. It took me 20 minutes to prep for the 3 classes I had today

"Korean teachers come in early and stay late, so you should too"     (they also dont need that amount of time to get their job done. Its just that this has been the way for so long that everyone just accepts it.

I tried out that principle, albeit with beer, one evening.  I thought, if I feel a nice buzz after six (ten tall boys for Kurt) I'll feel incredible after nineteen beers.  It turns out quality has a limit.

Seinfeld finale?  I came to see its brilliance and embraced it.  It wasn't supposed to be the funniest episode.  Just as close as that show got to emotional with a nice send off and retrospective of some of its most memorable characters.  If you're talking about the Lost finale I don't think anyone can help.  Just bury those thoughts.

Well, doesn't this depend what you mean by "prep"? 

My prep this week for 5 different classes, took a total of 20 minutes, mostly checking my warm-up's last slide pointed to the correct page in the textbook.

However, that warm-up activity might be several years old and taken hours to make when I first came up with it.  I did a Harry Potter read aloud story this week that took about six hours to find the pics, trim or add what was needed, make the dialogue etc. 

For 5th grade lesson on LesMiserables, the ppt and quiz game took--Oh, I don't know, but most all my planning time for a week, say 10-12 hours?   But that was 8+ years ago, for a different book, and needed some modification, an hour or two, for the new book as the vocab/expressions changed. 

But once the format was down for the R-P-S writing game, switching in sentences for the particular lesson depends on typing speed, that's how little time it takes.  Place your bets takes longer, because you have to find just the right--or wrong--picture.

I am NOT whygook. I do have a parody account on here with a similar name, but it is direct reference to a well-known personality on this site and satirizes him, a certain mentality of NET, and moronic RWers, particularly Trump supporters and conspiracy nuts. I will say, however, that the account's bashing of various non-American entities is not 100% satire always.

As for the larger point, perhaps this is a reference to a long ago argument which got typically misconstrued- I said that if you've NEVER worked late to prep for a class, that is probably indicative of a certain laziness. I'm not saying everyday, but if you never once worked late to prepare a special activity or event for your students, yeah, you probably are showing a limited level of commitment and I think part of a good work ethic is occasionally being willing to do something special and that requires a time commitment to generate quality. If you can't bring yourself to do that say, once a season or even once a year, then sorry, but that's just flat out sloth and lack of ambition.

This got misconstrued into "Marty thinks you should always be working late and work 3 hours after work every day just to make your Korean boss happy. Sorry, but I don't need to do that."

A good teacher can efficiently prep so they don't get burned out. But there should probably be a few times a semester where it takes more than standard. And probably once a semester where you work late on like a big special event for Children's Day or Halloween or some such.

i don't know that it is.

Looking at teaching job sites in the US it is perhaps rare to see a pay scale mentioned if it's not a public school job.

We're cleaning house. Getting ready to move early next year. So, I put (gingerly) my weight bench, 50 kgs of weights, a barbell, some dumbbells, and an 18 kg kettlebell, all in great condition, out on the street yesterday with a note to take it away if you can get some use from it all. Had a look this morning and the barbell and kettlebell are gone. The old fella that roams the streets at 5 in the morning must have taken it. Don't mine that he took the kettlebell for scrap metal but geez, taking the barbell has pretty much rendered the bench set worthless. Doubt anyone will want it now

This is a very important part. I don't think it needs to be as much as 10k, 5k might be enough, but putting something up for free is going to attract a lot of time wasters. I speak from experience 

Good idea fellas! With only the bench and plastic-coated concrete weights remaining, I'll put up a 'take it away for under 10k' sign. Buggered if I want to lug it all to the dump site. Or rather, buggered if my wife wants to lug it all away to the dump site

He knows he'll get crapped on for posting too low of pay.  But he chose to be a recruiter, so, if he doesn't want to get called out, he had better tell hogwans that he'll only advertise jobs from 2.8 and up.  Otherwise, I'll feel no pity for him.  The market is flipping.  English teacher power!!!
