You know Shejang.com IS the Foreign Food Mart, right? They have both their site and their app. You can get everything delivered to your door for 3,000 won. And before anyone says "But you have to pay 3,000 won" (as the types who still are bound to their Foreign Food Mart exclusively and go there on foot might be prone to do) The opportunity-cost of you spending 2 hours traveling by subway to go there is easily offset by that 3,000 won delivery fee.

Incidentally, a lot of the stuff you're buying on Amazon or wherever, you might be able to find on Coupang or 11st for cheaper and often delivered more reliably.

I really encourage you to give it a shot, try some different services and not be afraid of stepping outside of your comfort zone. "Koreans complain about Korean apps" doesn't really sound like a reason, it sounds like an excuse not to try in the first place. Everyone complains about every app. People complain about Amazon. Even the gold standard of iherb once effed up one of my orders. Stuff happens.

The only person you're screwing over with this "No Korean Apps, No Delivery" stance is yourself. It's literally self-destructive. You aren't some hero standing against the tide. You're just being stubborn as a mule.

WTH is up with you dude?

You have worked yourself into apoplexy trying to get another human being into spending their own money the way YOU think they should.

Just drop it and see someone.

Sheesh!

Uhm..."You know there's this thing called Coupang, right?" isn't really that off. It's like someone complaining about not being able to buy stuff and someone telling them there's Amazon and them throwing a hissy fit that Amazon is "too hard".

It's on the level of complaining ordering a pizza over the phone is too hard.

Just curious: would you treat the elderly Koreans (or anyone else) who go down to the local wet market at 8:00am and buy a day's worth of vegetables with cash the same way?

The minute I teed that one up for Marti, I knew what he was going to do.  He’s just an unhappy guy and having someone here to rage at is actually a soothing thing for him. It would certainly frustrate him that I don’t feel the need to defend myself, but to know he’s working himself into a lather over me eschewing Korean shopping apps is pretty funny.

Marti, I know you want to feel superior but that’s just not going to happen on this website. Your reputation precedes you. You’re a bitter troll. Let’s see if this helps you. Instead of ordering an item from Coupang that is available from the Foreign Food Mart, I will always choose to go up to the foreign food mart. I enjoy it. I head in, browse, and after head  for a special meal somewhere.  I’m sorry you want me to be in awe of your app skills, but I am not. I have barely even looked at those apps or sites. Don’t need or want them. If there is something I absolutely need from there my gf gets it.

Exactly. I like going to the wet market, meeting the locals, buying the freshest produce, and grabbing a lamb skewer from the Uighur barbeque next door. I also like going to foreign food stores and browsing the latest offerings. I also like shopping online when appropriate. Different strokes.

Thirded...in person shopping is great. Way better experience than ordering online. What you see is what you buy, and social interaction is always fun. Also, not saying that getting your SO to order something for you isn't pretty handy, especially being a bumpkin living away from the city.

Based on L I's appraisals of the relative net worths of Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault, I think we can safely conclude that this design is about 56% more attractive than anything available on Amazon.com, Arnault is 56% smarter than Bezos, and he works 56% harder. Otherwise, the market would have have put the two of them on an equal footing.

If you disagree, don't quibble with me. You'll have to take it up with the market.

I don't normally use Coupang for grocery shopping either (except international goods). But if I was under quarantine and wanted groceries...

Do they regularly use the internet and have a basic level of smartphone competency? Are they under quarantine?

I agree, but if you are under quarantine, then you can use them for grocery shopping. And what if your GF wasn't there? And why should she have to do something that any barely competent adult can do for themselves?

This is what you first said
Quote
That would be a lot easier for Koreans than for me. I can rely on my girlfriend and Korean friends to an extent, but they have kids and jobs
You acknowledge that what you ask is a burden and they have stuff to do.

Quote
I don’t have the skills to order food to my door three times a day.
This wasn't a lack of desire. It was a lack of skill. Your own words.

Then you moved the goalposts to try and not seem incompetent. Why not just admit it's hard and then accept help? Why not try to improve your abilities and not be helpless? Why not take the slightest bit of agency over your actions and outcomes instead of dumping stuff that a normal adult should be able to handle by themselves onto others?

I like in-person shopping as well. But FFS, if I was under quarantine, I would learn how to use an app to get some stuff delivered, not just beg people to bring stuff to my place when I could take care of it myself with a modicum of effort.

Like this is basically the same as asking your GF to come over so she can do the laundry or cook Kraft Dinner. Like "Hi, I'm so helpless at this basic human task, I need your help. Can you do this for me?"

Seriously, it's at the level of not being able to do your own laundry.

You don't need to drop the stupid money some people do just to look cool. Pretty much just as dumb as spending buttloads of money on a handbag and the psychological reasoning is similar.

"Gucci purses are dumb" says dude with 50 authentic sports jerseys that cost $150 each and were made in Pakistan.

For once L I and I agree on something. Cycling is a great hobby. I did 70km this past weekend. On Saturday I rode to the river, took the ferry across, rode along the river, took the ferry across again, and came home. On Sunday I rode to a local bar for brunch. I posted my gear in the cycling gear topic to show you guys how cool my bike looks. I bought the bike from a shop but most of the accessories online. I got the best of both worlds. ;D If only China would legalize weed then my cycling trips would be the cat's meow. I was with a buddy. He had Covid but since I took three doses of the vaccine I'll be totally fine. He offered to wear a mask but I told him it wouldn't be an issue.

I wear a mask when cycling anyway. Otherwise I end up inhaling an entire day's worth of protein. Sooooo many bugs along side the river!

Also, the 400,000 won mask I bought online looks very fashionable, and let's all the other cyclists know that I'm not one of those dirty proletariats like they are.

Ever see that show where the main character delivered weed on his bike in NYC and ended up in all kinds of weird, stoned interactions? It was free at first and then they started charging for it.

they get income from the recruiters posting jobs.  its the only explanation to protect them from any scrutiny. this used to be a site for teachers.  now they are actively allowing recruiters to post horrible jobs that don't help teachers even a little bit.  It's damaging teachers.  This site lost all their integrity when they stole everyones work and locked it behind a pay wall that ended up being a subscription trap.  I pity any poor sucker who pays any money to this site.
