No repelling means they will keep doing it.  Cheaper rounds to shoot some of these down ought to be in order.

It's like I said. Iron Dome rockets are VERY expensive, so North Korea could just bankrupt the South by flying remote control airplanes across the DMZ.

Here’s the thing: 5 drones flying into South Korea without being intercepted is embarrassing.
Your ignorance does not mean the result is embarrassment.

What are you thinking is going on with the air defense? That some giant blip on a radar screen flashing "DRONE DRONE DRONE" is waltzing over the DMZ while the South Korean and American military just sit around playing Fortnite?

Quote
you would think that the South Korean military has contingency plans to deal with a drone threat.
Curious, what would be your contingency plan be to deal with 5 low-tech drones that manage to penetrate and sit around loitering? Start firing SAMs over the suburbs of Seoul? Send in some aircraft on strafing runs above Dongducheon? Maybe have some pilot try to fly by and toss a net out of a window at it?

This would be with the 20mm Vulcan that's parked in downtown Paju right next to the Olive Young?

What are your contingency plans for 1,500 rounds of 20mm landing in a Paju schoolyard, may I ask?

marty seems to think its no big deal.
Marty is pointing out all the factors you have to consider such as avoiding friendly fire, risk of damage and injury from ordinance landing in civilian areas, unnecessary escalation, reasonable chance of detection, etc.

Others seem to have some sort of fantasy-land view of what is going on.

Quiet you, with your thinking of more than one step ahead and understanding that new systems aren't made and instantly deployed after spending 2,000 research points and waiting a few turns.

It appears there was quite the response from the South:

Quote
The military responded by firing warning shots and launching fighter jets and attack helicopters to shoot down the North Korean drones. The attack helicopters fired a combined 100 rounds but it wasn’t immediately known if the North Korean drones were shot down. There were no immediate reports of civilian damage on the ground in South Korea, according to the Defense Ministry.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/north-korea-drones-south-seoul-jets-launched-airports-halted-rcna63222

And all of the drones made it back to North Korea. It seems drone incursions aren't very common, so it's complicated to arm against something that happens once every few years. Still, it's concerning that these drones photographed sensitive sites and brought the intel back with them.

South Korea continues to fail to do anything about north korea…

The only thing to be done is relations between the Koreas, relations with China, and kicking the foreign invaders out of their country.

What are they doing here? Asia is not theirs. It’s a military occupation, with a foreign-ruled republic.

Did nothing happen to Handgook from last week after calling people pedophiles again?  and cum guzzling losers?  i was on vacation for a couple days.  also forgot which thread/threads it was in to check on it.

About a hundred deleted comments that day, was loads of fun for everyone but hg77 and the janitors (power bottom Taeyang). handgoo and NewOrleans got muted.

His warning level was at 95% and is slowly going down. DL Orean got hit with a slightly lesser one. Auggie was at 25%.

Me? Not a sound. hahahaha

I was wondering what all this "watched" and "moderated" crap meant.  I didn't check my warning level.

You got to throw some pointed barbs people's way if you're hoping for a warning.  They don't just give those out to anyone in a thread. You got to make waves, not memes.

haha.   so,  calling someone a Pedophile, on a teachers forum, for a second time.... wasn't enough to warrant a ban?  That $5 membership goes a long way.  Im sad to see that im not included in his signature  anymore. I thought we had something special.

You'd think he would have learned after the first time :undecided: interesting fellow that hangook77 is. I hope he's back soon because he always had interesting takes on the job market in Korea.

Pay in Korea has stagnated and if they don't shape up then I'm gonna go to China.

(I got you, hankook77. Someone has to spread the good word whilst you're in exile.)

I’m so burnt out I feel like I’ve reached a whole other level of burnt out. Everytime I stay late to make materials or spend time conversing with a parent about their kid’s behaviour at camp I question why the hell I’m doing all that for a crummy 2.2 a month from EPIK and a school where I get no meaningful feedback or acknowledgment from anyone. The better I get at the job, the more I want to throw in the towel. Desperately waiting for camp to be over so I can have a proper break. Just all feels like a waste of time atm.

this time of year drags on for a bit.  could also be weather related frustration.  Try to get lots of vitamin d.  see the sun whenever possible.  I dont know why your talking with parents,  that is WELL beyond your job description.  Public school jobs have always been about dressing nice, being on time, and not making waves.  I did 8 years of public school. What finally made me switch out was the travelling to multiple schools with no regard for distances between them.  Keep your head up, eat healthy, get lots of sleep, drink alcohol minimally, and see the sun.  You got this,  school year is almost up.

I know how you're feeling and do understand about how you are questioning your reasons for doing what you are doing. However, it will only get worse as the years go by. It doesn't get better in Korea if you are in the teaching business, and a real break...you know one where you don't speak to or have any contact with kids that aren't your own, or dealing with parents, will most likely never happen unless you quit your job...just to have an extended freshen-up. Two weeks at a time just doesn't really cut it after a while. I haven't had a decent break since 1992.

Anyway, chin-up. This exhaustion and dissatisfaction does go in cycles and like BaC said 'winter just makes it worse'.

It's pretty crazy what they make people do with multiple schools here so I'm glad you don't have to do that anymore. Thanks for the solid advice :)

Yeah I'm not planning to make this a lifetime career I think I'd lose my mind. Thank you :) I'll try to keep my chin up like you said.

your school is making you talk to parents? jesus christ dude, that is not something that should ever be happening in epik. i cant imagine what id do if my school expected me to actually converse with some (and theyre mostly helicopter ones). probably refuse or at the very least make a terrible impression.

Yeah, no way my school would let me communicate with parents about their kids, even if I wanted to. First of all, there's the language barrier (not as much of an issue for me, but it is for most NETs). Then there's also the cultural differences. I'm always professional about it, but it's very western in practice, and that doesn't always translate well, especially when you're dealing with difficult parents here.

But mostly, as an EPIK teacher, it's literally not in my job description. I don't get paid to do that. I'm not even supposed to be allowed to teach on my own during the school year. Even most KTs aren't supposed to communicate directly with students' parents, at least initially. They're supposed to go to those students' homeroom teachers and let them deal with it.

Sounds like the school is just shirking responsibility off onto the NET, tbh.

After more than 20 years teaching here, i never NEVER.... had a meeting with parents (hi chat with a mom dropping her child off doesn't count; never even saw the face of a dad, except for once,  the father of the twins whose mom had committed suicide).

Help others, especially animals. Say what you think, be considerate of others. Appreciate more than deprecate. Teach well, jump on teachable moments. Enjoy Korea as it is, without changing it. Dwell! Yet, at times, change your life for the better. "The most important [thing] is to have a good day."

Now now, the kids most likely to require consultation would have dodgy parents, so this might be a chance to make lifelong connections to Korean organized crime.
