Have you guys seen more school violence at your schools as the year wraps up before Winter Holiday?

Middle school teacher here.

I generally see or hear about school violence throughout the school year, but that's partly because of my school's location. We get a lot of problem kids in general. A lot of them come from abusive or neglectful homes, but yeah, there is a category of the extremely spoiled that act out because their parents are either extremely lenient or super entitled and believe their children (and, by extension, them) are never at fault.

And yeah, student behavior does tend to take a dive near the end of the school year, especially after exams. We don't necessarily see more all out fights since the kids who are more likely to get involved in that sort of thing are normally suspended or expelled by this time, but there's definitely a lot more rowdiness and bullying in general. Like they've got to get their kicks in while they still can, lol. It's especially bad with our second-graders because they're transitioning to third grade and they feel like they're the new top dogs in the school, so now it's time to establish dominance. They try to do it to the teachers, too, and I don't really get where the audacity comes from. Like they're really convinced that they can run the school over the teachers, and I like to watch them **** around and find out just how wrong they are.

But aside from that, a lot of the confrontations I've seen between students is a result of built-up resentment and frustration. It's usually something that's been going on for a while due to student drama or bullying, and what the teachers see and witness is the explosive result of all of that. So it kind of makes sense to me that I see more incidents near the end of the school year.

Today a male student punched a female student. Hard. I was shocked. I’m still shook up.

I have twice seen a man hit a woman harder than i ever had seen back home. In public. I was left angry and frustrated because the impulse is to shout out and step up, but this is not my country, and the situation probably wouldn't turn out well. I did yell "HEY!" when a man was repeatedly kicking a tied-up dog.

I can't imagine student-on-student violence. If it was in my classroom i would not hesitate to stop it and physically drag the offender into the hall, consequences be damned. But if it happened outside? I'd be shouting and taking names and be shook up greatly. In 20 years here i have seen only one student hurt another and that was a girl who hit a boy hard. Back home blood has had to be cleaned up in the hallway a few times. When teachers weren't around, some students were ruthless. I recall being thankful i had a best bud as my wingman to avoid being targeted. This is years before the word "bullying" was popular, before violence in schools became a social issue.

:) Ha ha. You are taking the piss.

In the context of everything said in that paragraph the CHARITY PRINCIPLE OF INTERPRETATION used in academic discourse should have avoided a Twitter-like response. Your reply i take in good fun.

I edited it hours ago:

The lunch on the school website and ACTUAL lunch served today.

If you can call it lunch. It's not even a meal.

And if my thought-dreams could be seen

Dang.

I have no free lunch memories.

We totted lunch boxes (i rarely bought from the canteen: hot dogs, chips, cookies, there was a hamburger but my friends warned me against it and it looked.. grey... so i never tried it).

My dad embarrassed me twice in high school when i phoned him to say i forgot to pack a lunch (usually an orange or apple, a sandwhich, and nuts) and he delivered Kentucky Fried Chicken (i don't say KFC because I had never heard those initials back in 1987). The second time he did it i actually shared with so many that i had not a single piece. I didn't mind. Though i recall wolfing down leftover duck meat and two peaches when i got home.

Quote
The organizer expects about 80-thousand workers, mostly after-school child care staff and school cafeteria workers, will participate in the strike nationwide, with a rally in Seoul likely to draw some 50-thousand.

As the strike is likely to cause confusion and disruptions in meals service at more schools, education authorities plan to shorten school hours and provide alternative meals instead of the regular offerings on Friday.

This would be the reason behind the change of lunch. Although I'm sure your school could have found a better alternative

A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips. Too much of that will definitely devalue you on the sexual marketplace.

I ate the Hallabong roll and the juice/yogurt. I was starving. I'm doing a 12-6 eating window so by 12:45 I was gonna eat anything. Gave the gaint choco muffin and the mango jelly to some students outside the Eng room. The choco muffin had 424cal in it. JFC.

Oh, come now, it's a fair point.  For example, I never reference that Snoopy Snoopy Dogg person, or whoever he is, because he wasn't around in 1987.

Also, there were never any black Presidents in 1987, so I'm not buying into that fairy tale for one second.    And these kids, blabbing around about dot-this and dot-that, I refuse!

This talk of Amazon selling books and clothes and stuff, almost like Sears!  Well, I went up the Amazon when I was 15 or 16 and lemme tell ya, there weren't many books.  'Course, that was back in '77, but I'm reasonably sure the Amazon was nothing like Sears even by 1987--I was teaching by then, of course, and couldn't afford to go back.  Heck, my first monthly take-home pay was $1,066.  I could barely afford to go to the Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet, as I still call it.  This was before I started coaching, which supplemented my income a bit, but you don't do it for the money.  I remember when my Varsity girls won the State in 1995 (the boys had won the Region in the fall that year), how Jesse Owens said, "Friendships born on the field of athletic strife are the real gold of competition."  I'm still friends with many of those players all these years later.

Personally apps and dating sites don't work so well for me.  I've tried tinder and swiping, but rarely get swiped back.  But then in person women do act attracted to me.  I am a decent looking guy, but those sites, little dice.  Some swear they work well though.  So, not sure what the deal is.

Way more men than women on there and the algorithm shows women the most liked men first. This combined with unlimited options alters their mentality. Best to meet women in real life and hope that woman hasn’t yet been changed for the worse from exposure to online dating.

“Studies on online dating find that most men find most women at least somewhat attractive. In contrast, women on average view eighty percent of men as below average in attractiveness. Another study found that on the dating app Tinder, men liked more than sixty percent of the profiles they view, while women liked only four and a half percent of male profiles.”

Incidentally, Jordan Peterson saw his daughter swiping left on nearly every profile. He was surprised. It’s brutal for guys he said.
