PPP loans was part of the coronavirus cash giveaway. If businesses used the money for payroll expenses they could get the “loan” forgiven.

Sucks so much money was given away to businesses to keep them afloat during the pandemic.

Also sucks so much money was given away to ordinary citizens in the form of unemployment checks exceeding what they normally made full time.

Huge, huge, huge governmental debt racked up.

The party that gives away the most stuff wins the next election.

Take all this money! It’s on the house! We’re not paying for it, so why should we care?

I hope, as a man of principle, you didn't cash those covid relief checks.

I wasn’t happy about big Covid relief checks going out being paid for by expanding debt. I’d rather it didn’t happen. But it did because there was an election coming up. The result of all the coronavirus spending: inflation. And future inflation for people who didn’t get the checks.

Not happy but you stayed quiet and cashed those checks. I'm guessing you're more vocal about the student debt relief because you personally don't benefit from it.

No. I don’t want to benefit from something that is unfair. I wouldn’t be happy about something unfair happening just because I would personally benefit. You would?

People justify in their minds what is unfair or fair.

“I shouldn’t have to pay back the money I borrowed for my gender studies degree because in hindsight it was too expensive.”

“I’m not going to pay the rent I owe my landlord because I’m a person of color and am thinking about how there was slavery 200 years ago.”

Who is the judge of what is fair or unfair? You?

Did you benefit from the covid relief checks? Were they unfair?

You take friends out to a restaurant. They think you’re great because you’re paying. You stick someone else with the bill. Dine and dash? (But others think you paid.)

Who’s to say that’s unfair? The restaurant prices are too high, anyways.

No. You did wrong.

What does this have to do with the price of tea in China?

Warren Buffet, in his attempt to raise taxes on the rich in general, including himself, was asked why he doesn’t just give all his money to the government? “Haha, gotcha!” He said, no he could more efficiently spend it himself. It’d make a better difference if all rich people collectively contributed a bit more, not just him. And he continued giving to the charities of his choice.

It’s a metaphor. The people “treating” their friends are opportunists. The friends are political supporters. Voters who are gonna re-elect them.

“Awesome! Free food! This guy rocks! Let’s keep the gravy train going!

Woke up with what I thought was a massive hangover. Nope, I have the dreaded lurgy. Two and a half years of playing it safe and it only took a week with my guard down to catch it. Confined to quarters for the next week, and I have to use the outhouse

Aw, man, bummer!  Did they give you an oximeter?--check your blood O2 regularly.

Keep your spirits up, and get well soonest!

Hang in there, Rye! I caught Covid earlier this year after getting through the previous 2 years fine. One day fine, then my wife tested positive, and then I started having symptoms and tested positive, felt like sh!t; the day after, kind of ok; the next day, back to feeling like sh!t again, until I felt better 5 days later. Much worse than the common cold as people like to claim.

I asked another teacher this Wednesday how she feels and she said " Fine", but when i adked about her week away due to COVID19 she said: "I thought i was going to die two of the days." (She in her late 40's; an accomplished artist and movie festival award judge). I have been pretty standoffish with many since, especially in elevators and line ups.

The older a person is, the harder coronavirus will hit them. The less healthy a person is, the harder coronavirus will hit them.
———————————-
22.8 million coronavirus cases in South Korea. That’s 43% of the population. For the world as a whole, over half have gotten it.

For most people who got it, it wasn’t serious. The illness feeling wasn’t so bad. But for some - a minority - it was.

How bad is it? Depends on the person.

Are you older, sedentary, overweight, smoke, and/or drink like a fish? If yes, (to any of those) you could be in danger.

Learn from L1:

1. Don't become older.
and/or
2. Don't eat meat.
Inflammation aggravates.
Vitamin-rich, mineral-rich foods like fruit & nuts, seeds, reduce inflammation.

Yes. And I still could be, and I certainly do everything I can to stay safe.  However, I got it back at the end of April, and never had even the first symptom.  The only way I knew I had it was that we were required to test ourselves every Sunday.

I got a negative test on the Friday, without ever feeling anything.  In fact, I've been slowed much more by the shoulder surgery I had in November--I was tiring more easily after that, not since May.
