Purely a therapeutic rant, as this has been covered so many times, but for the first time in a long time I am trying to use my credit card through a Korean website. Why, why, why do they still use that ridiculously complicated set up to use a credit card?  It boggles the mind.  Bought a ticket on the Delta website in January.  Took all of three seconds to enter cc info.  Now, I am trying to buy a ticket through Korean Air because I can use my points to get a cheap ticket to Bangkok.  Tickets are all booked.  Just trying to pay.  Several calls to Korean Air, a failed trip to go pay in person at the Korean Air ticketing centre in Coex yesterday (closed due to the pandemic) and now error messages sent to Lotte Card and waiting for them to call back after lunch. Unbelievably frustrating.

It will be a great day when all you need to buy things on most Korean sites is:
1) Card number
2) Card expiration date
3) Card 3/4 digit security number

Not endless security hoops.

Yes, because BUY LOCAL is so 2008.

Who cares about communicating with those at the 5-day markets?

The letter 'F' means forget the women who bust their gut to come to town to peddle veggies. Don't you dare buy produce from them instead of from a corporation (sorry: not a great day indeed imo; buy at least 5000 won from a 70+ year old looking woman squating in front of the donut shop you frequent). I mean, how elite snotty do you have to be to walk past old, struggling veggie sellers without buying anything? (This ain't shaming if a single old lady goes home more satisfied; it may urge oneself to act accordingly.)

To be fair, I did ask the 70 year old selling weeds at the corner if she would redeem my Korean Air miles for a ticket before I went on to the website, but she gave me a bit of an attitude.

Otherwise, great post Van.  Right on topic.

I have posted multiple years about my tuna can spree for roadside felines in the wintertime and my palming a fifty thou bill to the oldest or frailest at the 5-day market in December, countering their noble objections with a shout of "Merry Christmas!" as i scoot away. (I have mentioned this at least three years hereabouts; too often i get it for some to take, but,... if just one other could find an excuse like i have to put on the disguise of Christmas church do-goer to do good? It's worth it.

As for cats. Y'know i have two 8 year olds and i have often tuna canned my neighborhood at 3am (bloody fun satisfying! ;) but i don't actually feel compelled to do it until the weather turns cold: November through February or so. Donate online to an animal shelter. Help the old lady in your building somehow. Just do something. Make a difference. And have a good day!

Er, wait, this is the ranting thread: you lazy asses with your half-ass excuses for doing nothing to help the less fortunate than pay your measly taxes.... wake up! Too many people do too little to help the less fortunate.  Rant over.

Robin Williams said he never met a person he couldn't like. "I could but I didn't." *flash smile* "I wish I would've."

To be clear.

On December 5th every year I take 50% of my pay and think: "This ain't for me".

(Yes, I grew up in a household where my mother, aunt. and grandmother all gave 10 to 20% to the church every friggin' month (my dad laughed and said: son, do what you want, if it is that or something else or nothing. It's your call.)

I thought i would be helping more dogs but i don't see street dogs other than collared ones after midnight (this a 50,000ish community) and so street cats and old ladies at the 5-day market seem most needy.

I cannot stress enough the face-saving grace of shouting "Merry Christmas" in trying to help someone. I dare you to try to openly hand *no gift card cover* a 50,000 won bill to a very old Korean. I tried that 2 times and both times they hunted me down and cursed me to no end.

But Christmas... then... you can give. .. and get smiles.... the smiles are worth gold.

Be.back.here.in.Dec ember.

dont get me wrong, i enjoy the ol farmers market every now and then (there was a great one near dejvicka in prague - fantastic local boar) but just because someone is a local seller doesn't entitle them to your money, or mean that they have good/worthwhile produce. theres a great south park episode on the subject if i can be bothered to search it up

This seems like a good thread to vent about something.  It hurts me deeply as a caring human when people respond to others on here in a fashion such as "They clearly suck. (To any native English teacher)"  -VanIslander in response to someone posting a helpful resource.  How can some people be so mean spirited and uncaring towards others?  And, that on top of being condescending towards another poster in regards to English, they think felines is spelled filines.

1. Everybody makes mistakes.
2. I am on vacation at a hotel recovering from sun stroke? Certainly a sunburn and tiredness from the heat (24 c plus in a tent with no a/c - ugh).
3. 'Feline' i could spell in elementary school because i did a book report presentation on my favorite pets!
4. Feel free to make of it what you will. A great thing about turning 30 before ever encountering a negative online post is it isn't part of your ego/constitution: you don't gaf. Younger generations seem to get their knickers in a knot over stranger posts, heck, "cyber bullying" is a thing, and leads to suicide sometimes. I don't get it emotionally. But i didn't grow up with the 'net. Moreover, I wasn't bullied in school, nor on the streets. A different world of experience.

Sounds cool.

Quote

Entitled? Certainly not.

Good produce? Indeed sometimes the hot peppers are brown inside and the core of the onions inedible. *sigh* Admittedly the one chain supermarket in town never has freshness issues, and has a wider selection. So,... i am extra careful at the 5-day market and write-off any bad produce purchases as charity donations (as i buy from the oldest or most forlorn there), then supplement my shopping with a trip to the supermarket at the END of my shopping.

Clickbait is unethical.

Video in my recommended feed: "China's ENTIRE Economy Will Collapse In 34 Days".

The entire economy? Will not may? What a crock.

Up for only 15 hours and at 1.4 million views and 75k likes. That means thousands of dollars in ad revenue. Not gonna watch that POS video. Sad that others are going to watch, believe, and applaud it.

Why is the word entire capitalized in the video title? Because capitalizing words grabs attention. But the emphasis on the word implies a literal meaning. A claim which cannot possibly come true. Shame on those who use factually inaccurate clickbait. How can the penalty be greater than the gain from using them? The gain is tons of views and thus tons of ad revenue. Can someone call them out on this?
—————-
Bill Maher and John Stossel don’t use clickbait titles. Their videos are better. Factual and based in reality.

They probably should remove a lot of the comments given Korean defamation laws.

From my understanding, while defamation laws don't differentiate between the truth or not, SquatJ would have to prove he received reputational damage. Luckily BanIslander removed all the evidence, thanks LVL 1! That would also mean staying on this site for more than 30 seconds like he usually does. Ejaculates 2 horribly formatted job spam posts and waddles away from the criticism.
