It's depressingly possible (and well written. You had me for a sentence or two!), but I personally doubt it would go that far. Also, not to nitpick, but Waygook and its servers are owned and operated from Canada, not Korea. Not that it makes much of a difference, but...
Well it all depends on how they present it, size of class, how the students view the teacher, temperament of the students and parents, age of the students, if the teacher adds additional content, how the school reacts, political orientation of the school, etc...Like, I would think presenting this in Deep Blue rural Gyeongbuk or Deep Red rural Jeolla to a class of 4th graders would have a far higher chance of a meltdown than some 6th grade class in Sejong or some High School Teacher printing one of the pages, coloring it and taping it to the back of her clipboard as she does a class on reading comprehension.
The odds of what you are suggesting are so slim they might as well be zero. But if it were to happen, what odds are we looking at for criminal charges against the moderators?
It's the mods who should be worried
Are Mr. A, Mr. V, and Mr. K currently residing in Korea?I don't want to see you guys pulling a midnight run and scampering out of town like the 3 Stooges at the end of every show of theirs.
Take it down, mods. Take it down. If you don't take it down then I can't guarantee my continued participation on this site.There. That ought to do it. You're welcome.
Mr. A does not reside in Asia. As for Mr.V, well... I'm really sorry VanIslander, but when the stasi show up, everything will point to the fact that good citizen K is just another one of your sock accounts. I hope you'll understand that it's nothing personal.
Actual charges? Probably really really slim. The scare of charges? Higher than really really slim.Though still not high.
The idea of a shitstorm is possible but only in the literal definition of the word "possible." It is NOT going to happen.
Yes, but why weren't just the offending comments removed and the sound advice left? That's the part that confuses me. And now it's been left up and locked, which, as DMart says, seems to be an endorsement. Forget whether you agree or disagree with Pride celebrations. We all know that if anyone does this with little kids there is going to be blowback for that teacher. And it very well may be blowback, especially at a hakwan, that gets them swiftly booted. The mod that wiped the entire thread and locked it should be explaining their decision. They seem to have gone A.W.O.L. on this. It's clearly something that has drawn a lot of attention from a variety of the waygook community, so what's with the silence? Dumb things done by one or two teachers affect the whole teaching community over here. They don't look at it as isolated instances, but rather as an indication of all our behaviours. ESL teachers have a vested interest in some idiot NOT using those materials. We're not just shooting the sh*t on this one.
I also nominate Aristocrat as the next person to be caught accidentally falling on a penis. But he should still be allowed to express his opinion.
While not doubting the validity of this prediction and sanctity of free speech, one cannot forget the need to maintain the esteemed reputation of our profession in Korea.
Not really sure why my comment was deleted. I'm personally very much in favour of the gays even though I forget what all of their letters stand for these days, and I would fully support Aristocrat regardless of what he ended up falling on.I can only assume there's something going on between him and VI.
And we wonder why there are so few younger NETs and women in the comments...
