Rant: why is a thread locked? There was an interesting discussing about wages. Wanted to say some stuff about that. Possible to unlock the thread after people cool off?

There were some pretty... bizarre... tangents on that thread.
There was some personal back and forth that was getting pretty heated.
I'm guessing that it'll be unlocked soon, after a bit of time to let people's hackles settle.

Marti, I'm from a colony. I'm not British. Most of my relatives are a darker shade of pale. We don't have any precious football clubs, but we do have a some amatuer soccer clubs. And New Zealand never ruled the waves. Also, you didn't get that I was messing around.
Then do yourselves a favor, and do what we did and leave that trash colonial-imperial past behind.

All in good fun of course.

Why Marti? I live in Korea. Have done since 1993. I have property, a pension, friends and family. If you are talking about the Korean imperial past, then I agree. Korea should move on from hating Japan and all the percieved injustices. It would certainly make for a healthier country, and mentally healthier people.

Spoken like a true colonialist abuser! Always the victim's fault for being upset about the past, not the abuser for having done things...

But I agree the healthiest thing is to be like AMERICA and smash the colonizers, then later on become much stronger so their claim "Britannia Rules the Waves" becomes a joke. Then buy up all their sports clubs and make their people cry salty tears. Maybe NZ can join us one day rather than being caught in a breakup-getting back together cycle and being used as cannon fodder for their masters.

Nah! Serious is not the word for me. He's just a really annoying know-it-all, and in turn is fun to annoy... I usually completely ignore him. But every now and then, it's like he gets a little crazy...a little twisted ...you know, a little off center. Pretty hard for anyone to resist having a dig or to stir him up and see what pops up.

Hey, that's more generous than most. I'll take it!

Man, you carry a lot of baggage.
Now now, surely you mighty Kiwis and Brits can take a joke or two. I mean people love to throw shade at the U.S. for all sorts of things, surely you can handle a few pointed comments?

As I've pointed out, there's lots I don't disagree with. You just only see what I DO disagree with and conflate that with 'anything'.

Though to be fair...

Rye is sort of correct. I do like a good argue! After all, debate helps us see what holds up.

Hint- If you make a point and I just completely ignore it (willfully, not because of myopic focus on something else or distraction or my own choice to go on some off-the-wall tangent), you've got me! Happens a fair amount as I'm sure some have noticed. Rarely, I'm a good enough man to admit it. Usually with posters I've established something of a rapport with...

Okay Marti, have a good weekend doing what you do. We'll resume on Monday

Love a joke Marti...love a joke, and shade is fine by me. Hint: it's how you do it that is the difference between a laugh and being just plain nasty. BTW, I've never in memory shate on The U.S.

Also,  you've made my weekend. From memory, you have been man enough to admit to me 3 times over the years. Does that make me a poster that you have established a rapport with. I didn't think that I was in with a chance, but now I have some hope  :-* Cheers Marti!

I got another yearly check up, but this time it was in a big hospital in Jinju, on the same floor as cardiac surgery, so i shouldn't have been surprised that for the first time in 20 years here (and first in my life) i had to have an ECG (EKG). It showed an arterial fibrilation. That is associated with an increased risk of stroke. The doctor immediately wanted to prescribe "drug therapy". I said I wanted to improve lifestyle factors (caffeine - had three cups that morning - is associated with AR; alcohol, fried foods, red meat, oil, sugar, lack of exercise all are correlated with AR... I can address those factors.

I was prescribed Amiodarone and told the side effects are rare. I bought the pills but haven't taken them. There is cited scientific research on several common side effects, it only recommended in serious cases; it was banned for several years due to side effects, then reintroduced when it was seen to have additional uses.

I have to go back in a week. I'll work on the lifestyle factors. That doctor was annoyed already when i asked to see the arrythmia on the results. He will be pissed to find out i'm not taking the medication.

Since when is an ECG required for a health check up?
Life's to live! Live! Breathe. Relax. Enjoy. Animals teach us to focus on family, friends and avoid danger. Get what you need and get along with others. That said, some rock the boat, but they know capsizin' it means they're sunk. Some sink, let's swim! The sea's big, great, but has undercurrents.
