South Korean news network putting lives of Ukrainian civilians and foreign volunteers at risk

https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/tqt2m3/south_korean_news_network_putting_lives_of/

In a recent segment with Reporter Lee Jong-un (이정은 기자), Korea Broadcasting Service (KBS) essentially bragged about tracing GPS metadata of photos shared by Korean volunteer fighters in Ukraine.

They displayed a graphic showing their exact location (a hotel) despite numerous examples of such act attracting Russian air and artillery strikes.

Despite heavy criticism from viewers, KBS is refusing to admit their mistakes or take down the video. Instead, they keep making excuses.

They first lied saying it was a general location, which turned out to be false. Users were quickly able to visually match the exact hotel.

They then said ďKorean volunteers are no longer there.Ē Thatís good and all, but what about other volunteers? Or civilians in that area?

This shows gross negligence and incompetence on KBSís part. Not to mention complete ignorance of operational security (OPSEC) on journalist & producerís part.

Please urge them to take down the video and to never repeat the same action.

Tell them your feelings. If enough people complain, they might do something.

fair, although if you really think you can get a lot of people on board it might be better to just try a straight up petition. i guess korea might not have any sites like change.org though

Was it the most recent summer or winter olympics, that a Korean news channel used a picture of Chernobyl to represent the country of Ukraine? I think Mexico was a sombrero or something similarly racist.

A sombrero is racist to Mexicans as a hanbok is racist to Koreans.

Chernobyl picture isn't even racist, it's just so incredibly stupid to show as a portrayal of a country.

While KBS should be admonished to be more careful, it is highly unlikely this was responsible for the attack on the Yavoriv International Peacekeeping and Security Center. The interview was broadcast on Feb. 28th. The strike was conducted on March 13th. Also, the intel for the strike has been attributed to many of the foreign fighters posting on social media (anyone closely following has heard of this). Additionally, the location of the base and its likely use was probably was already known. It would be like saying KBS revealed the location of K-16 or Twentynine Palms. Finally, I haven't been able to see the unedited video or get a good article, but how specific were they in location? Looks to be done inside a dorm and them being said to be in Lviv, which is like doing an interview to someone in a dorm and showing Daegu on a map.

KBS' lack of concern is bad, but this complaint might not have much to stand on.

EDIT- The more I am looking into this, the more I'm convinced it's a nothing burger. I see nothing that shows specific GPS location (I could be wrong) beyond 'Lviv', Seems more like rival news orgs and people with a beef with KBS trying to make an issue.

Anyone have anything further? If not, I'm going to declare this complaint against KBS 'debunked'.

STAY THE F OUT OF MY ELEVATOR!

I thought this for over a year, having to vacate when some bonehead thought it a good idea to go into a very confined space during a pandemic when a healthier, safer stairs option always existed (the building has only 5 floors).
Life's to live! Live! Breathe. Relax. Enjoy. Animals teach us to focus on family, friends and avoid danger. Get what you need and get along with others. That said, some rock the boat, but they know capsizin' it means they're sunk. Some sink, let's swim! The sea's big, great, but has undercurrents.

I had to replace all 4 engine mounts on my car last week. All were cracked and the car was making horrible 'rusty spring' sounds when going over bumps. 700,000 won gone on something that should not of broken in 6 years. I'm not happy. I bought this car from new in 2016 (Kia Carnival), and it's cost me a fortune in replacements that should not of needed replacing in short time. 4 door rollers, 2 new batteries, suspension pads (or something like that), rear seat folding levers... and a few other bits and pieces. Let alone all the dings and scrapes that needed whole panels replaced. from unidentified cars, whose owners did a runner (but that's not a fault in the car...just a rant).

How many Kms did you put on it?  Do you drive roughly over rough spaces or something else?  It could be this or just that the car is a shitty build.  Is it common to Carnivals?  Cars come out the year before so you bought in 2015 maybe?  Seven years old?  I know it's not on warranty, but did you contact the dealership and at least ask why a car under 10 years old and possibly low km's is doing this?

That's the thing, I'm not a reckless driver. I guess everyone says the same thing, but I'm really not. I'm for the most part extremely careful (although my wife does put her foot down a little  :lipsrsealed:). The car has 123,000 km on the clock, and yes we did complain, especially about the engine mounts. The Kia people were embarrassed, but just shrugged, and basically said 'bad luck', and blamed it on all the speed bumps around our town, and all the short runs we do (my wife runs many students home). Nothing I can do about it, they will come up with some bullshit (or facts) if we press it further.

Yeah, typical dodge responsibility and take no ownership of something.  Of course sometimes you can nag them and complain non stop to push them into a partial compromise or partially fixing at a reduced price.  You definitely have to have a strong spine living in Asia.  If you don't many will try to walk all over you and dodge the issue as fast as possible.  Sometimes you really have to be quite pushy here.  Don't take no for an answer.  Of course I suspect that you will still have to pay something and still more than you should.  Of course if they do crap to you remind them you will never buy from them again.  This is time when the libel law protects the corrupt.  Still you can let folks know about the bad service in other ways.

In college my old Toyota Corolla had a terrible motor mount and the front of the car would shake tremendously at every left turn. I sometimes laughed, sometimes cried, but nothing broke so i drove with it for almost two years! I then gave it to my dad and that first weekend he fixed it.

That car is famous for its poorly screwed on front right wheel falling off at exactly the moment i reached the top of the bridge, the wheel actually rolling AHEAD of the car!

If only there were smartphones, er, even the Internet then, in 1988.
