Give them some credit. That old generation has actually been pretty progressive all things considered, considering how much they've moved in that time.

I certainly do give them credit and will always agree that South Korea changes rapidly!
I'll also say that since many of those old folks who protested now find themselves in positions of power, which may explain a resistance to change.

NET: "We know more about progress and rights. Why aren't you changing your culture? Listen to us you dinosaur!"

I don't have to be an engineer to tell you that a 3-legged rocking horse isn't going anywhere.
I don't have to be a Michelin Star chef to tell you your soup tastes like donkey ass.

Respond to the argument, not the person.

Ajosshi: "All those who have been tear-gassed protesting their dictator and helped turn their country into a democracy raise their hands! Thank you."

By that logic, age is the only authority, so... Confucianism?

I think they're pretty open to some changes at a certain pace, just not rapid overnight instant change and they have to do this as part of a representative democracy with delegated powers, not a dictatorship.

I'd say that's fair, but lets also remember to listen to the ajosshi instead of just going "Oh he's just an ajosshi...He's just a Confucian dinosaur."

Not age. Experience and having walked the walked vs. just being a bunch of talk.

They aren't automatically right, but maybe show some humility.

Like, most NETs here aren't even aware of what the situation was like in Korea at the time said ajosshis and ajummas were in university and what kind of protests and disturbances took place. They just walk in with a bunch of assumptions based on stereotype or something.

The problem here is that there are no real social consequences to our actions.

In Facebook groups, there's a 99% chance it's your real name. This puts a bit of pressure on. And your profile pic is, a lot of the time, someone's real pic. There's a shame aspect.

Reddit uses the opposite approach. You're completely anonymous but people can decide, collectively, if what you're saying is valuable or not with the downvote/upvote system. It's not perfect but it acts as a bit of a filter. Also, getting downvoted is a mild shame aspect for some people so it acts to rein in some of the egregious acts of some posters.

Here? It's the worst of both worlds. There's complete anonymity. Completely asinine comments remain in stasis, exactly as they are, for all to see.

Kind of annoyed that every updated thread I'm seeing today is being bumped by KimchiFedora.

Gonna try to spam the recent activity to get him off of there.

Hmm, interesting observation! But then how do you resolve the apparent paradox where the only poster on Waygook who regularly goes by their real name also posts the most asinine comments?

I know, sometimes I just can't help myself. But I don't do it often, only when I get to the point of total frustration. Please understand my unique situation. I'm oldish, I'm fattish, and a little bit baldish.

Hey, now. Kurt is a cool dude.

Thank you! Someone can see past my issues

Why do we need each elevator to have their own button? I don't know what anyone else on any other floor is doing, so lots of people just hit all three. They take the first one that comes and then the other two come and there's no one there to come on.

Just have one button and send THE NEXT ONE AVAILABLE to my floor. Do they think I give a shit which elevator I go in? Just send the NEXT ONE.

It's absurd.

Why do we need each elevator to have their own button?

Such technology exists, but cheap building owners see it as a $2000 option and choose not to implement it.

I have seen some situations where there is an assessable elevator (low buttons).

The building where I go for PCR tests (in Cairo) has what I assume is an “executive” lift next to the common ones. It has wood trim and a small screen that plays Kpop.

I can't recall seeing a bank of elevators that all had independent push buttons until I came here.  I get elevators that serve different floors, obviously, but most of them here are an absolute waste of time and power.  Almost no one seems to guess which one will come soonest and just pushes one button.  They hit them all. My GF's 13 floor office building recently installed the one button for all elevators feature and it's like having to relearn how to do it.  I've become so used to the stand back and watch them all method.  However, I also don't recall being able to cancel a floor on an elevator by hitting the button again as you can here.  I like that feature.

I could merge the 4 topics into one and then merge the names together into something like "Is this fake Rittenhouse driving SUVs through Russia?"
