When I was at school we had to go straight from one lesson to the next, then we would get a 20 minute the lesson before lunch. That's so much better than the ten minutes they get between lessons here where they seem to think they can do absolutely anything they want.

In the US I feel like there are actually consequences when you do stuff like that. Even if you can't stop it in the moment, the kids get written up or whatever. After enough time, they just don't even try that shit because they know that they'll have consequences later.I think it's kind of a vicious cycle. The teachers don't want to be in the halls/classrooms during break time because they know the kids will be crazy, but because there are no teachers around, the kids know they can be even crazier with no consequence because there's no one there to see and enforce any rules or write them up. I understand now why my cots always wait until the last minute to go up to the classroom - because they want to avoid hall craziness. For those of us who don't move from classroom to classroom, I think it's hard to understand the 10 minute break between classes, but now that I have to move, I really think it's for the teachers' benefit rather than the students. Having enough time to take a sip of water, get the materials ready for the next class, sit down for a couple minutes, it can be pretty important when you're running from classroom to classroom. There's definitely room to improve though.
OMG this is just reminding me that I desperately wish the English classes were just in the homerooms and that we didn't have separate English classrooms. The teachers at my school are all really nice and the VP is super chill so I wouldn't mind having a cubicle in the teacher's office. God, that would be so nice... No students messing everything on my desk; no cleaning after the students; no yelling at students during break time to stop running around the classrooms... and best of all, easy access to a fridge and kettle. The special classrooms (so including the English one) are also used for afterschool classes, which means that I'm not in the room during those times. I have no control over the students (first and second graders) and even if I talk to the teacher responsible, they aren't regular teachers at my school; they get brought in on a half-year contract so they don't really care if the kids get messy.

I really wish that I had my own English office thing. There actually is one in my school but it's just used as an English library and during lunch my cot sets up English movies/shows for the kids to watch. There's no internet set up there either so I can't use it. I really don't focus well in this whole open layout environment, I need my own comfy space in order to be productive. I much prefer teaching in the English room rather than switching classrooms though, because I can just keep all my materials there rather than having to carry them around, and if I need some special seat setup I can just do it myself at the beginning of the day rather than asking the students to set it up in every class. I can't wait until the veil of construction heck is lifted. Month and a half behind schedule lmao
From public school or from a pivate owner?

Imo,I'm not telling anyone, anything, as I appreciate that this is a rant thread.I'm just looking to understand where their head is at and what they expect, along with killing some time.

I got my severence 3 weeks after I left, which was also later than I expected. And I don't qualify for pension because I'm British!I emailed the co ordinator for the office of ed but he's on holiday currently
