I really just want to give up everything and move to Italy!  Has anyone ever heard of anyone making it as an ESL teacher in Italy?

I know I sound like a whiner, but Korea does not give me any passion at all to stay anymore. This country is a good one, but I just can't find the passion to learn the language even more that I have...It won't get me anywhere....
the food is great, but I'm done with gochugang and aggressively spiced/seasoned food.  My surroundings are samey and so are the people.  The Confucianism here is still strong and oppressive...and there is so much waste and corruption, and facades...everythin g is a phony facade.

My apartment smells like the sewer and it seems to grow stronger by the day.

I've invested over a decade in this country and it is flourishing, but I am not.  My salary is at the top of what it can be and can't grow and I don't know why (i try harder every year and i am given more and more responsibilities but there is no payoff), and with each passing year all my positivity for this country wanes because there is no where I feel I can go and grow....

there is a part of me that deeply loves yet deeply hates this country.  I feel like Korea sucks the marrow out of you.  I am at a total loss, and I feel lost.

I understand exactly how you feel. If you're done, you're done.

As far as ESL in Italy goes, I've met people who've done stints there, and it's possible, but much like here it can be a shitshow unless you get into the right school with the right people. Unlike here, you'll be doing proper teaching within proper programs. They take language acquisition more seriously there as compared to here, but I don't really know about how the pay works or what the requirements are. Italy also has a very patriarchal society, and the sexual harassment there can be fairly aggressive, but I think that also depends on where you live. It also doesn't have the same level of hierarchy as in Korea so it might be easier to deal with that kind of patriarchy vs. the one here.

And while I don't think it's as bad as in say, France, they don't like A/C there, haha. So get ready to sweat.

The people I've talked to all had both good and bad things to say about it, and they all had different reasons, but they've all said that it was worth their time there.

You probably won't be putting much in the savings account, but you can definitely survive on the pay you'll get, and it might be worth it just for the experience of living there. Italy is a beautiful country so I'd definitely do a year if I could.

I wonder if you're allowed to supplement your income with privates on whatever visa they have you on there. I knew a guy that did Spanish tutoring in the Czech Republic (cheaper to live in than Italy but still a very nice country, so it might be worth taking a look at) and he made out pretty well all things considered. This was a few years ago though.

I just got my application for renewal yesterday, and in the "Current EPIK Level" I wrote in "1+" because that's what I've been at for the last 8 years or whatever. No problem.

In the "Desired EPIK Level" I wrote "1++++", and the administration sent my application back to my head teacher who then handed it back to me. There was a big sticky note attached with what I'm sure is the equivalent of "This is not a joking matter, please take this seriously, this is official government paperwork, what the hell is wrong with you, etc etc" scribbled over it in angry looking hangeul cursive.
They seriously need to lighten up.  >:(

Anyway, the head English teacher snickered, though, so I guess 1 out of 2 isn't bad.

all the korean teachers at my school pronounce "superlative" as "super-ral-it-ive" with the stress on "ral". drives me crazy. but they all do it. what's that about then

This happens almost every time I pull out from my apartment. The centre square should be left open for drivers who wish to pull into the supermarket entrance however, what usually ends up happening is the driver behind the square sees that I put on my indicators and am waiting at my complex exit for the lights to turn green. Driver behind the circle then drives over the square to block me from pulling in front of them when the light turns green and thus, adopting the title of ASSHOLE.

Asshole blocks the square and now, someone who wants to turn into the supermarket has to wait. This creates a massive backlog all because ASSHOLE isn't prepared to let someone move ahead of them when the light turns green.

Everyone else gets stuck because nobody figures out that simply being kind and patient makes the traffic move faster.

The R followed by an L is probably psyching them out.

I feel like I hear a lot of “month-ez” for the plural of month because of the TH sound followed directly by a similar sounding S.

When the CAD contains cars, is it an auto cad?

Oh, I could never nap at school. I can't nap anywhere there are people out and about. I have serious trust issues.
Makes sitting in an airplane for 14 hours a bit of a chore.

Like people who hop around lanes whenever any lane moves ONE iota faster than another or there's an open spot.

Bro, chill out, we'll all get there if these people CALM THE F DOWN.

I can lane change a lot on my commute because I’m able to look ahead and see what lanes are moving faster. Also, you may need to get past the car in front who is guaranteed to be using their phone and not seeing their lane moving forward, thus, leaving a massive gap which will get filled.

ask them when they are going to go to church. mention there's been far more church cases than itaewon cases, so you're worried for your health

The education office sent a notice to tell the foreign English teachers not to leave the city and not to attend any Halloween parties.

The basic premise of Logan's Run, a 1970's sci-fi series i recall fondly, may be revamped for 2020 IRL.

IM SO SICK of my coteacher getting hog wild because I tell her her words hurt me.......  She gets hurt NOT cause she hurt me, only cause I TOLD her she hurt me.. and that made her feel embarrassed.  I've encountered this bullshit time and again with Korean women.  It's weird as hell.   My ex-girlfriend would do the same thing and yuck......I don't even know how to deal with it....
