People still die and get married and stuff. It also contributes to the money given to teachers and staff when they leave to a new school.

I wouldn't complain about paying into it, since you were literally a beneficiary of it just two years ago.

What I said was I don't mind...but I have paid for it already for 2 years.....and there haven't been any deaths, births, marriages, school dinners or anything since January (we get announcements about each of those things)  and I am literally leaving in a month......so if money was needed for any of those reasons no problem, I will gladly pay....but there has not been and if they were planning to give me anything for leaving....then just let me keep my own money instead of transactions back and forth because in that case I'm paying 100,000 won for 20,000 in return?

Point system revised for residency visa

Expats baffled and enraged

Another change? Not long ago was this:

F2 visa changes disrupt foreign residents' lives
https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2020/01/177_281802.html

Why is the Korean government making it harder and harder to get and keep the F2 visa?

Can't believe it! My 4 year granddaughter just cut up our new-ish duvet with her baby scissors. Made incisions right along the length of one side and around the corner of a short end. Looked lovely. Totally my fault for saying she could trim a piece of stitching that was hanging down.

Teach her how to sew next!

I am hoping that Colbuurrrrrn gets booted off of this site, fast.  I really cringe whenever I see a post of his because I know it will be possibly intolerant, ignorant, and hateful.

Haven't you got some pictures of birds to be jacking off to, son?

Also, don't you get any unused money back?

I've been here for 12 years, and most years someone from the office comes around with an envelope, a nice 70-100000 W inside.

That's your bribe Mr C....

Same here.  If no one really gets married or dies during the year, then there is usually a rebate of some such.

Should have seen what she wrote before the edit.

Stoat, that is just stirring.  The post as it stands now and what she wrote originally really aren't that different.

I've only gotten a refund once in 5 years and usually my schools didn't make me pay because I was only there a few days a week, but it's just that I am leaving the school soon and I know there wasn't anything that the money had been used for...so why make me pay it, just to give it back.......but if there is a need for it between now and when I leave, sure I'll pay.....

The mods (there are only 3 or 4 active ones) don't read every thread. Especially not over the weekends. If something is against the TOS and it bothers you, rather than complaining about it here, PLEASE BRING IT TO THE ATTENTION OF A MOD USING THE "REPORT" FUNCTION so that it can be dealt with.

... although I suppose then one would then have nothing to rant about, which would suck.

I did. The post was still there, although now it appears it has gone. That's getting on for 5/6/7 times now and no real action. One wonders...

Unless, Dippedinblush removed it herself, I don't see what was wrong about it or why it should be 'reported' for being against the TOS.  It's in the venting thread.  There were no expletives.  It expressed a 'wish'.   Done.

Good job you're not a mod then and you don't have to be concerned with making those decisions.

Clearly people have different opinions about what breaks the TOS which is resulting in uneven application. For example, I wouldn't say giving my opinion on the hobby of birdwatching is worthy of a report.

As kyndo said, report it if you find it offensive and they can decide. The TOS are clearly defined.

Done indeed.

I spent all day marking a quiz that I handed out the previous week.
I don't know why I do this to myself: the students barely care, the teacher who I hand the grades off to may or may not include them in their end of term student evaluations, and I've lost like 2 hours.
On the flip side, the questions were about personal likes and dislikes, so it does help put names to faces. Still... all that spread-sheeting... wasting time on stats is something I excel at.

That'd be those damned principles again.  Doing things properly, even if it means taking time to do something that nobody really needs or will know about, just so it satisfies the way you do things.  My 1500+ online class emails that I replied to, took me about 100 hours.  On Saturdays, I would spend four hours clearing them and then standing up and curse loudly before starting my Saturday glass of wine.  Like you, I found out loads of interesting things about my students (like their dogs or cats' names) but I was the only one to instigate it, so can't really complain about it.  But it's the principle, and maybe the one time you decide not to do it, that is the time you get asked for the scores and feedback.

I teach at 4 schools so, this summer holiday is going to be absolutely shit.

The vacation days are crazy, one school is starting vacation 3 weeks before another and each principal also has his own cockamamie philosophy on how long vacation should be. As it stands, I'm not getting a full week off, something I've desperately needed. Yes, this semester has been short, but my workload has skyrocketed, teaching 6 classes on Tuesdays with no break in-between (I have to go to the homerooms, instead of having them come to the English room... and each class is on a different floor). I just need a week of no school to unwind.
