I've never understood why Korea is as soft as Charmin toilet paper when it comes to crime.

Soft on Juvenile delinquents
Soft on Sex Crimes
Soft on Past presidents

Yet ultra hard on drug offences

You know, given the fact that you can get off at literally any bus stop or subway station at any time of day and not run a serious risk of being mugged or attacked by a gang of youth, something that you could never say about a major metropolitan area back home, lack a for-profit prison industry, and don't have cops being constantly accused of using excessive force and kicking doors down and shooting grannies, maybe we should take a few notes just once in a while, rather than constantly criticize.

What pointing out that there isn't a no-go zone in Seoul?
Open your eyes. Korea is cake when it comes to crime and the police. Some flaws? Sure, but compared to back home? I mean fing a dude. Let me drop you off in a little place called Brightmoor.  You'd come running back to Korea. Or how about you go through the system?

Korea is cake. If you think it isn't you haven't been in the scene.

Crime is dropping everywhere in the world (due to CCTV and cellphones).

The West isn’t that bad and is getting safer every year.

However, yeah, Korea has less crime.

I also notice you only complain when I do it, not when anyone else does it. I mean, the OP implicitly compared Korea to other countries with his statement.

I am not American, never been there and I doubt if I will have the chance to in the future. I have plenty of American friends from all over America and none of them describe it as the hell-hole, drug infested, gangster paradise that DM does in so many of his pro-Korea posts.

So, Americans, please help me out. Is DM right or are my friends right?  DM insinuates that every Waygook that comes from America lived in this hell-hole, drug infested, gangster paradise neighbourhood.

Makes me wonder where he came from? Perhaps he lived in a 'hood like that and therefore thinks all Americans do.

Just a gentle reminder to him in his pro-Korea ravings, not ALL of us are American, not ALL of us come from the kind of area he loves to portray the rest of the world as. Heck, even I as a Saffer come from a peaceful, safe neighborhood, despite my country not being the model of safety and peace.

I look forward to your feedback.

In America I had a car but rode a bike when I could to help the environment and get exercise. Also, aways rode my bicycle to bars and house parties so as to not drink and drive. Was too lazy to buy a bike lock so just parked it outside where I was unlocked. How many times was my bike stolen? Never. How many times was I assaulted - even in a vulnerable intoxicated state? Never.

I do the same in Korea- never bother to lock my bike. How many times did it disappear? Twice. But maybe it was not maliciously stolen but mistakenly thought to be left out as trash? Those weren't too expensive bicycles so not too big of a loss. Also, never assaulted in Korea. So I'd say both are safe.

Did you grow up in Compton or something?  The way you talk sometimes is like you're now living in witness protection.

i guess you just do it most often. korea is pretty soft on those things (well, sex offenders and juveniles anyway) and hard on drugs though. don't think that could be argued by anyone

Bikes are fair game the world over, apparently.

I've had one stolen from my parent's garage way out in the boonies, one from a mall parking lot in Fukuyama (found the lock and chain a few days later, cut clean through), and had one stripped down to the frame where it was locked in the lobby of my villa my first year here in Korea. I keep it in my apartment these days lol.

My brother's bike was stolen in Toronto so he bought a beater, painted it shit brown and stencilled "SHITSTORM" all over the bars.

No one stole it.

I guess I was lucky in the U.S.

But I think as CCTV penetration increases worldwide bike thefts will go down.

Perhaps I should be more cautious though; I think you’re right.

No, I grew up in a pretty nice part. However after that I lived in some rather shady areas and my friends were of a rather different socio-cultural-economic strata than my parents and their friends. The way some people here talk it's like all they knew was suburbia or some sleepy small town.

I wish there was some awareness of air quality at my school (everywhere, really). At my office they have the windows open in the morning/ at lunch when the AQI is near 100 and it really bothers me. I repeatedly close the windows but nobody gets the message. I stopped going to some cafes in my area because they leave the door open when the air is bad too. I wonder if people are just not checking AQI or they don't care.

HR teacher in the next class is using this time to practice violin.

Now practice is not a performance, it's the time you'll hear a lot of repetition as the musician is focusing on ingraining correct technique and playing difficult bits slowly and ACCURATELY, key being ACCURATE. I've literally repeated passages 10000 times in a single practice session, it's all good, and how you get good.

Hilary Hahn, in the next room, has played through about 20min of repertoire, making sure to play every other note at least a semitone sharp or flat. For added aural pleasure, her violin is horribly out of tune and her rhythm is completely random.

Thank Allah I remembered my earphones.
