2 and idk the office just moved me. the school didn't want me to go either, but the new teacher coming here is also working at a school close to here so i guess it's easier for her (not me...)

Last year, the MOE tried to pull that stunt on me. Thankfully, they asked if I'd like to transfer to a school an hours drive away and had a bad reputation, to boot.

The supervisor actually brought it up that "She asked me because I had a car and that it would be easier on some noob who just arrived from orientation"... I had to decline her offer three times. This might come as a hot newsflash, lady, but I didn't buy a car to add 2hrs to my commute or make life easier for someone I've never met, at my own expense.

Still, things are a lot better now. The supervisor asked and respected my decision to decline.

In previous years, the previous supervisor (Mr Asshole) decided that transfering every NET in the city to new schools might be a cracking idea. Not only that, a few NETs lived 2min walk from some schools, but he'd give those schools to NETs who lived 30min away and give the schools in those NETs neighbourhoods to those who lived on the other side of town. The guy was genuinely out of his mind.

Just found out that another teacher at my school who went abroad on Winter vacation (but nowhere near China) got sent home for two weeks by the VP.

I had a stopover in Beijing and got told to come to school as normal.  Not bowled over by the news to be honest  >:(

Source please?
I know they have Sinterklaas and racism at football games, schools, work place, neighborhoods, but most Dutch claim to be very tolerant. ;D

what's with koreans and the complete lack of planning?

i'm only posting this because i'm a few beers deep, intending to watch the next couple of games of footy, having a lie in tomorrow...and yet my wife gets a call at 10.30pm from the MIL saying "let's eat lunch tomorrow, at 11.30am. your dad is in town". now, i wouldn't usually mind, but..it's less than 12 hours notice, and i was (until this point) enjoying my evening. i KNOW they all know their schedules beforehand, so why the lack of notice and foresight? why organise this so last minute, and not a few days before?

same with schools. nobody knows - even korean teachers - what's going on on the first day of the new semester. everyone is running around like idiots, trying to figure out their schedules/books/students. how does this happen? the winter break is weeks long. enough time for planning, surely. same with camps. why are they only set in stone a few weeks before the actual date? why not decide this at the beginning of the year? i see these posts all the time: "i want to travel in summer, but my school won't tell me the camp dates". what's it all about?

also the same with friends. multiple times i've had a message saying, "hey wanna grab dinner?" and it's....5pm on the same day. wife has the same thing happen with her friends. i know same of them may have had plans fall through and are looking for something to do last minute, but not most. it's just...lack of thinking ahead? especially with my wife's friends.

even the same while applying for jobs. so many jobs are advertised as saying "starting next week" or "starting ASAP". yeah...why not post the job in good time? i know some are trying to fill people who quit with little notice. but surely not most of them? i've never had this trouble in the UK, or with non-korean companies in korea.

does anything else experience this? the more i think about it, the more i can't understand it

TWO LESSONS I LEARNED FROM OTHERS BEFORE I CAME IN 2002:

1. Decisions are announced at the last minute and it'll be "bali, bali" to get them done.

2. Foreign teachers will be the very last to be informed (even after students) and we will be actively left in the dark.

I wasn't sure to make of such advice, but it quickly became handy. Because I ACCEPTED it as a cultural quirk, i didn't get angry or flustered but instead LAUGHED! :)

WHY? I have no idea. But it IS how they are.

Group-thinking centres around the leader not the individual, your role in this is simply to 'nawa' when asked to join the fun. Not being asked to 'nawa' would be a problem so count your blessings and PM2,5 particles or come home.

yes, great, but as a said, it's not just the foreigners. happens to the koreans too. just because these things exist and have existed for a long time, doesn't make them a good thing

cor, not being able to book a holiday, plan ahead appropriately, or being told you have to cut your evening short is hilarious. top quality banter, that

Forgot my lunch again today and I'm stuck eating convenience store garbage.

Tempted to just trash it and try for something at my local Paris Baguette instead.

Paris baguette in France?? lol.
Do they know French bakers spend two days proofing their real croissants instead of PG's factory processed dry ones? I can't imagine a Frenchy eating anything from PG.

Expat Koreans are the target market, I imagine.

HaHaha, no, they sure didn't say anything about rice.  Can you just imagine, Paris Baguette trying to help impoverished countries?  Haha, that's rich.  It reminds me how over a few beers this weekend my friends and I were joking about "What if Nike tried to help end world hunger?" and one of my friends piped up (no names but he's a real card!)  with "Can you just imagine some POC standing there looking at a pile of shoes and sportswear thinking " Ah, excuse me, did anyone mention grain?"  It was a good evening.  But, I guess I just gifted another story line for the Mourning Clam.  You're welcome Jim!

At PB I think I can count on one hand the number of things that were decent.
That one ham and cheese and onion flat thing was ok, well until the price went up.
The turkey sandwich was decent, well until it was discontinued.
I think one of their doughnuts or fruit pies was okay in a "I need a quick fix and a step above CU stuff" sort of way.
And if you're in the stix a few items can be a relief but that's more change of pace than actual quality.

Other than that it is divided up into overpriced/uninspired/outright bad.
