So a shitstorm that's been brewing for a few months has finally made landfall. I didn't expect it to hit until next year, but I didn't factor in possible mental illness, so now I'm just sitting here, doing my best not to say "I told you so" because I don't have any advise left to give and it's kind of too late for that now anyway, lol.

Read the warnings signs, people, stop underestimating crazy. You'll always get blindsided.

Meanwhile, I'm just trying to do my best not to get dragged into it.  But I feel like it's going to happen because of course it will.
Some context would be nice

This has been annoying me for a while.  About four years ago in my city, there was a lovely natural area around the mountain.  At the foot of the mountain, someone got permission to build a big area of detached houses with gardens etc, and they would have cost around 5-6억.  All the plans looked nice.  So they went about clearing this area of trees and everything to do with nature.  Took about 6 months to flatten the whole area.  Kind of annoying, really.  Then nothing happened for a year.  I notice all this, as I was hiking here almost every day so can see how it's going.  Then they spent six months putting in roads and street lights, traffic lights, sewage pipes and stuff.  Okay.  Then nothing happened for another year which strange at the time.   Then they did a couple of months of tidying up, as it had got overgrown a bit.  Then nothing, which brings us up to now.  When I was talking to my co-teacher last week, she said that the company had gone bust and nothing will happen with this area.  So it's just going to sit there, with streets, lights, and no fooking houses when previously it had been a lovely natural area at the foot of the mountain.  Why not make sure a company can see through a project like this before letting them flatten the area and cut down the trees?  I know there is the stupid thing here of selling the houses before they build them, but surely you can make sure they're not going to go bust and ruin the area. If it was some crappy brownfield site, then i don't care.  But don't hit the natural bits.

This is really annoying. And it happens ALL over rural Korea. And urban Korea, too, but just not as noticeably. There are tons of cleared out areas where there's a bunch of unfinished construction just left by a company that went bankrupt and couldn't finish the project. It's an eyesore, it's bad for the environment, and it's completely irresponsible.

Yeah, a similar thing happened near where I live. Beautiful area mowed down, then abandoned after on/off construction that was never completed. Had one of those ugly giant walls that are meant to hide everything for the longest time before it was removed to show off giant dirt mounds.

It was eventually turned into one of those small farming plots that people can rent to grow things in, so it looks nice enough during the Summer but looks like a dump any other time of the year.

Anyone who has been to Anyang station can marvel at the unfinished frame of probably an 8-10 storey building that has been there for at least 14 years.  It amazes me that it just sits there at such a prominent crossroads.  Maybe as that area is transitioning from dumpy and run down to newer builds something will be done.

As for selling homes that are yet to be built, that's not a Korean thing by any stretch.  From the Globe and Mail for example:

" Big cities such as Toronto and Vancouver tend to get the most attention when it comes to raising awareness about buying preconstruction homes, which could simply be no more than blueprints on paper or computer renderings, but it is a topic relevant across Canada"

Pretty sure that is standard practice around the world with new developments.  Maybe the difference is developers need to have some sort of insurance to ensure the project doesn't sit half-finished.

At least.  It's been here since I first was in the area.  I think the small red light district door has been cleared out or looks like it's going, so maybe someone will step in and raze that thing and put up a coffee shop or tire depot.  Something more suited to the heart and soul of Anyang.

My gf surprised me with some airpods for my birthday (this isn't the rant by the way haha).  I'd been using some cheap rip off ones from Electromart that worked ok but would regularly cut out and drop the signal depending on where my phone was or even if I turned my head.

Obviously over the moon to upgrade to airpods.  Turns out they actually perform on par or slightly worse than the Chinese knock offs!  If I'm not holding my phone directly in front of me then the sound cracks and cuts out.  Can't even carry my phone in my pocket because it just disrupts the signal.

I'm using an Android phone but surely I should be able to listen to music with my phone in my pocket.  Anyone else experience this?

Toxic smog is expected to blight Korea's Christmas, with fine-dust pollution at unhealthy levels over the festive season.

The last great thing Apple made was the iPod Shuffle and before they discontinued them in 2017, to encourage people to buy the ridiculous Apple watch, I bought 3 shuffles and use them as my music solution for gym and the track.

That explains it.  I have been on the lookout for a new shuffle and cannot find one, anywhere.

I thought it was the perfect gym companion (aside from bouncing boobies on the treadmill, next to me).

...figures.

I was on the fence about airpods for a long time, then my Mrs got me some for my birthday. Incredible. No problems at all. Perfect for bike rides/walking to school/watching the Premier League footy when she is sleeping at 2am.

If they are cutting out it means battery low, they shouldn't be cutting out with your phone in your pocket either.
Haven't you got some pictures of birds to be jacking off to, son?

Do you have an iphone or Android?  I wonder if that could be the difference.  I still get the problem even after they're fully charged.

Can anyone recommend any bluetooth headphones that are the same shape as the original airpods, ie ones that don't have the rubbery tip that go inside your ear.

Higher temperatures mean air masses can be trapped over the Korean peninsula. As a result, weathermen warned of high levels of air pollution.

The National Institute of Environmental Research said fine dust levels are not caused by a single meteorological factor, so it is difficult to make predictions one or two months ahead, but if pollutant emissions both in Korea and overseas are similar to last year, smoggy days are likely to become more frequent.

Weathermen also forecast little snow this winter. Kim Dong-joon at the KMA said, "From a long-term perspective, the amount of snowfall is declining due to global warming."

___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ _____________

Turn down the heating temperature in your home and school to reduce global warming.
