Nice, and congrats! What will you do for your new job? :D

Moving from Elementary in Gunpo to Middle in Uiwang.

Change of pace might be nice. Older students, better English abilities.

Nice! :D I'm here until August, hoping to renew 1 more time but will probably leave about halfway through.
I want to see my current 2nd graders, who will do 3rd next year, graduate but, I'm at the point I need a change of pace myself. So hoping to stay until they graduate, then I plan on moving.

In theory, but depending on the school, that may not be how it works out.  In my experience a lost elementary kid who can't follow is preferable to a restless middle schooler who doesn't have any English skills.  If they made it to middle school without picking any up they sure as sh*t aren't going to start caring now.

That's awesome! What would you say is the most difficult section?

definitely the writing. the 2 short answer questions weren't too bad. but i didnt even attempt the second essay and im pretty sure i wrote nonsense for the first (shorter) essay. writing was my lowest score, then reading, then listening

It was Christmas Day in 1950, and this was no ordinary birth.

The mother was one of 14,000 North Korean refugees crammed into a US merchant marine ship, fleeing the advancing guns of the Chinese army.

There was barely enough room on board to stand - and there wasn't much medical equipment, either.

"The midwife had to use her teeth to cut my umbilical cord," Lee Gyong-pil tells me some 69 years on. "People said the fact that I didn't die and was born was a Christmas miracle."

Mr Lee was the fifth baby born on the SS Meredith Victory that winter, during some of the darkest days of the Korean War.

The Meredith Victory's three-day voyage saved thousands of lives, including the parents of the current President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in.

No one died aboard the ships. All 200,000 who made that perilous journey to South Korea - around half of them refugees, half of them troops - reached land alive.

Amazing:

There are thought to be around a million descendents of the Hungnam evacuation living in South Korea and around the world.

Been a while, people of Waygook!  ;D

As I mentioned in another post, I was selected for JET interviews recently.

On top of that, I was looking for a more current job and went to this prep school to interview for a sub position, and walked out with an interventionist job.

Needless to say, things have been swell!

Congrats! The uncertainty and the feeling of being examined and judged that goes with job hunting has always been super stressful for me, so it's always nice to hear success stories like this.

You going with the JET position, or are you gonna be an interventionist (which is... what exactly?)?

The air is good, finally.  ;D When I got home yesterday, I went for a walk in the 'mountain' next to my apartment and it was lovely.  It's such a weird shame that the majority of days have crap air, that when there is a couple of nice days together, you are so in love to go for a walk and really enjoy it because you can take deep breaths and take in the lovely scenery.  Such a shame it's ruined most of the time.  Looks good today too.  I'll take my small pleasures when they come.

you can take deep breaths

That's the first thing I noticed when I left Korea. I could breathe in deeply again without carrying 2 litres of water up the mountain.

What a beautiful day.  What I wanted from my 'working from home' was to wake up, have breakfast, take a walk, come back and do a few hours work, lunch, another walk, then a short nap, then work, then dinner, another walk and then shower and then have the evening free.  I might be able to do this today.   :-*  It's incredible the difference it makes.  I'd say this is maybe the tenth 'good' day this year in Chungnam.   :cheesy:

Yeah man, love seeing the mountains surrounding the city with blue skies! It makes such a difference to my mood when the air is clean. Enjoy your walks - I'm up to 6000 steps for today so far after my lunchtime stroll to the park :D

Good work son!  It really does make a difference from the usual gray sludge I usually see outside every day.  I also heard this Boards of Canada track from 1996 when I was lesson planning earlier, that I'd never heard before.  Used to love listening to Boards of Canada.

Thanks to the coronavirus the air is cleaner. Less people going out and driving in Korea and China means better mountain hikes for us.
