I don't have to see my control freak co-teacher for 10 whole days!
I have this Friday off. I am thinking about a spontaneous trip to Sapporo...Thoughts?

Last month, the uni I hang out at was audited. One of the things that came up is that many of the foreign teachers were travelling internationally without letting the university know that they were leaving the country. Apparently, that was a big deal: the teachers got called in for a meeting and were politely reamed out.Fast forward a week or two, there was a four day holiday and a friend of mine was planning on heading out to Fukuoka for some shenanigans and dutifully let the administration know (about travel plans, not shenanigans). The university denied his 'request'. Apparently, teachers aren't allowed to travel internationally on weekends -- something to do with being on salary and therefor 'on-call' during non vacation periods.

Yesterday was great. After the kids took their exams, most of the teachers and I took off after lunch to a nearby city to see an art exhibition. The principal was even in tow (was a fine art major!). Bunch of ink works, mainly, pretty neat. Then we hit up a coffee shop for drinks and snacks (which was a really nice treat as there are zero cafes on my island). Caught the last ferry back and had dinner at a local restaurant. Love me some 깐풍기~ What a lovely day!
That does sound like a treat. How difficult is it to get off the island, I mean, how long is it to the nearest larger city or town?Quote from: yirj17 on October 19, 2017, 11:26:25 amYesterday was great. From school to port, sail the merry seas, then mainland port to actual city!
Yikes! I definitely couldn't do that.
Quote from: travelinpantsgirl on October 19, 2017, 02:52:07 pmYikes! I definitely couldn't do that.Yeah, it's certainly not for everyone, haha! Switching gears now though. Gonna have a nice long break back home once I finish up my contract then hopefully head back over to study Korean at one of the language institutes. Try out that city life for fun; I imagine it'll be quite the fun culture shock after having lived so isolated for so long! But I'm ready for a new experience~
Why an institute and not one of the university programs?Quote from: yirj17 on October 19, 2017, 03:01:17 pmQuote from: travelinpantsgirl on October 19, 2017, 02:52:07 pmYikes!
