I just finished 2 weeks of daily teacher work shops and I thought that I would share my materials. My classes were each 2 hours long, and attended by 5 teachers of various ability levels, my VP, and some random dude who is, apparently, loosely affiliated to the school in some nebulous, hard-to-define way.
12 lessons, grouped into 3 general topics:
1) Culture and Current(ish) events
2) Travel
3) Environment
Each lesson consists of:
1) A warm-up worksheet meant to introduce the topic and vocabulary. This includes a small spelling/grammar section, and a short "discuss the picture" section.
Time to complete: 45 minutes - 1 hour.
2) A relatively recent newspaper article that has been severely shortened, simplified, and split into 2 or 3 sections according to topic. Each section is followed by 2 or 3 questions. Each section is accompanied by a small photo to aid comprehension.
Time to complete: 35 minutes - 45 minutes.
3) A short true or false quiz for concept checking the article.
Time to complete: 5 minutes
Notes:
-No technology (aside from a printer) is required.
-No outside props/realia required (although may be helpful to prompt discussion).
-Most of the lessons went really well, although of the more "sciencey" articles were a bit difficult and may need further simplification if your class is at a lower level.
