2 year phone contract
« on: January 17, 2016, 09:52:11 pm »
My contract ends in March and I'll be headed home. I have a 2 year phone contract with KT. What are the options for ending the contract? I think I remember KT telling me when I got the contract that I had to buy the phone which would be roughly 200,000 and that would be the end of it.

Just to make things shady, what happens if a person just leaves with one year left on the phone contract?

They will likely black-list the phone, swear about waygooks who don't pay thier bills, and raise MY rates.

I think this was answered in a thread a while back.  Pretty much nothing will happen to you, but if a lot of foreigners start doing it then it'll reflect badly on the rest of us and it'll make getting contracts and benefits more difficult for us.

If it's going to cost you a lot to buy out the contract, advertise for a contract takeover. Lots of people only want a one year contract, so they'll happily take over the second year of a contract - I did it when I first came to Korea and wasn't sure if I was going to stay more than a year.

If you don't settle the contract (usually you have to pay out the full remainder of both the handset and the monthly service charge, but they'll often allow you to drop to a low tarriff), they'll probably blacklist the handset, but they won't come after you for the money if you're not in Korea.
