Citibank Mastercard Withdrawl HELP!
« on: April 23, 2011, 08:30:46 am »
My sister is visiting and has a citibank mastercard from the states.  We have tried KB, EverRich, and even a Citibank ATM none of which have worked for us.  Does anyone have a citibank card from the states and know which ATMs allow expats to withdraw money from?

Thanks a bunch! :)

did she tell the bank in the states that she was going to Korea
if not you might have to phone their help line and get it authorised
if that is not the case try atms in the subway or 7/11 they usually work

Yeah she did tell them but for some reason the Citibank ATM didn't work in the station yesterday for her.

Try to use Hana Bank(They have ATM's that have a global service written on them. I have a foreign Visacard, and my parents came to visit me using a Mastercard successfully on the Hana Bank with the Global ATM sign, after KB, didn't work, nor Citibank. KEB might work too,

Good luck!

Try the ATMs in the convenience stores.  FamilyMart, 7-11, Buy the Way, GS25.

Do it now.

Report back on your success.

I think they have an English button to change the on-screen language.

I haven't tried myself (I don't need to) but in Korea I sent an English friend to FamilyMart one time to get money from a UK account.  In Japan I sent a friend to 7-11 to get money from a US account.

Just try it.

Alternatively, give your sister cash and agree on a good exchange rate, then have her repay you by depositing cash into your account at home.  Saves you the hassle of transferring some money, and some fees.

The ATM`s at convenience stores are fine but they usually don`t have an English menu....so a bit of a case of guessing if you don`t know hangul.

For me, KEB and their labelled "Global ATM`s" are the most reliable when using international cards. I had all sorts of problems withdrawing money with my UK card at the likes of Shinhan/Hana/KB (even though they had "global ATM`s".

The KEB in Gangnam definitely accepts foreign cards and you usually are fine in Myongdong/tourist populated areas.

Try putting the card in in a different direction. I have a Mastercard that I tried to withdraw money from at a City Bank and I tried a dozen times and it wouldn't work so I just started putting the card in a different way and finally one way took - no idea why.
