My CT recently gave me her copy of John Irving's The World According to Garp and A Widow for One year after she found out that he was one of my favourite authors. So I'm re-reading Garp for the 4th time right now.

I'm working my way through Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn. If you're into marriage-gone-wrong murder thrillers, this is the book for you.

I recently finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series. I loved the 1st two and the 3rd was a little hard to get through because of all the political stuff in it but I still enjoyed the books! I just added 50 Shades of Gray to my list because it is all I hear about from friends back home.

I'm about to wrap up The Beginning of Infinity:  Explanations That Transform the World by David Deutsch and start The Synaptic Self:  How Our Brains Become Who We Are.

I cannot say enough good things about The Beginning of Infinity.  It's a fascinating, fascinating book.  Well worth the read.

Now reading the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Fantasy and Detective Fiction wrapped into one....quite enjoyable

I love The Dresden Files...even if the last few books gave me something of a permanent squint (from side eyeing Jim Butcher). I actually got a signed copy of the last book BEFORE it came out at San Diego Comic Con last year. We took photos and everything LOL.

His Codex Alera series is amazingly good as well. I used to ignore the books because he would talk about them in his Dresden Author Notes but finally decided to read them when the 3rd book came out. The series was written on a bet that you can not write a good story based on a bad idea. Butcher said he would accept TWO bad ideas.  The bad ideas were Roman Legionnaires and Pokemon.

I just finished an outstanding book called On Christian Liberty by Martin Luther.
I'm now starting Blink by Malcom Gladwell and in the wings I have Walk Two Moons and Sherlock Holmes--which I don't remember reading despite my english degree (that required heavy literary reading).

Just finished Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. It's quite absorbing and gave me chills at the end.  Also currently trying to finish Moby Dick. Anyways it's nice to find out what everybody's reading. I'll definitely try some of the books mentioned above!

I like the Cosmopolis rec--I hear theres's a a Cronenberg movie version on its way to US theaters, limitedly.

I just finished Crowds and Power, by Elias Canetti. High-brow but somehow remote...powerful stuff, with great historical & cultural range. Erudite but not pedantic--imaginative--strange--

I'm currently reading "Pillars of the Earth", a meganovel.  Its a novel with many story lines intertwined.  It is also amazingly political for people that are into the nuances of politics.  A good read for the dedicated reader.  Highly recommended.  :D

I'm a total fantasy nerd: reading the Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan.  If you like Lord of the Rings this may be up your alley.

I've been reading this series since I was 13. It's beyond a joke now. Just release "a Memory of Light" so I can read it non-stop in 24 hours and have done with it!

PS I just checked the release date. It's been pushed back to Jan 2013 now. I know there are neither beginnings nor endings when it comes to the wheel but I just want to read that book!

I'm reading Simon R. Green's Something from the Nightside, it's alright. I think he's got like 12 Nightside books.

I just finished "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg and it was really good.  Kind of makes your re-examine your whole life and the habits you have.  I also started reading "50 Shades of Grey" but stopped about halfway in because it was so bad.  Just terrible writing.  I heard it started out as Twilight fan fiction, so that should have been my first clue.  Fool me once...

Reading "Children of Dust". The author is a very good writer by the standards that I consider "good writing". He's very honest, raw, vulnerable and funny. I can identify with a lot of his religious experiences and his irrational justifications to stick with his religion but we ended up on different paths. I, through luck, was able to listen to reason while he seems to be stuck on an irrational path performing theological gymnastics in order to fulfill his desire to feel significant. Still a great read.

I just finished reading John Connolly's Every Dead Thing and can honestly say was worth every penny. After that exquisite slice of crime with a touch of the supernatural, I have turned my attention to something a little more historical.

I'm reading "The Marks of Cain" by Tom Knox. The reviews were a bit sketchy but I'm hoping he's worth the gamble.

I'm listening to the audiobook THE PSYCHOPATH TEST, by Jon Ronson. I really like his writing style - very quirky and enjoyable. Quite the edutainer.
