Howdy folks,
New-ish member here!
Just wondering, what books folks are reading at the moment?
Any recommendations, etc?

I'm reading ""True History of the Kelly Gang" by Peter Carey

That's a great book! I'm reading 'The Fry Chronicles' by Stephen Fry. It's autobiographical and fabulous if you're a Stephen Fry fan.  ;D

I just finished Infinite Jest, by David Foster Wallace. I definitely recommend it if you're willing to put the time into reading it.
Now, I'm reading The Honey Ditch, by Chris Haynie.

My girlfriend is reading that  :D

She couldn't recommend it high enough, so it's next on the menu.

It can be tough to find books here, eh!

I'm starting to read 1984. Cultural necessity that I've missed out on till now. Only ten pages in and already impressed. I heard a lot about it but didn't expect this!

Since I've been in Korea I've been making the most of Kyobo's decent Classics section. Been going through Dante's Inferno, The Count of Monte Cristo, some Dickens... This kinda thing.

Also discovered Murakami. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle was a good read, though a little lacking in plot.

I love being here because the books, somehow, tend to be cheaper! And since I'll be here long term I don't need to worry about all the extra weight to take home.

I buy most of my books at What the Book in Itaewon. Peter Carey is fantastic and I think that is his best book. I am currently reading Atlas Shrugged. I will keep an eye on this thread for recommendations.

True History of the Kelly Gang was an awesome book.

I'd recommend Shantaram to anyone. It's beautiful, funny, and interesting as hell.

You can buy book in Itaewon in English. Used books!!

I would definitely recommend Infinite Jest, it's my favourite book ever. If you have a stressful school schedule, though, you might find it tough to find enough energy to finish it-- it's a serious amount of work but it's well worth it in the end. I'd actually recommend anything by David Foster Wallace, try his essay collections for some of the lighter stuff. Also worth checking out: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, Blood Meridian, White Noise, Europe Central, Lolita.

Murakami's a good one to get into. If you're looking for more by him, I personally liked 'Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World' and 'Sputnik Sweetheart'. Wicked author, did my dissertation on him.

I'm readin A Silent Cry by Kenzaburo Oe. Good read so far..

I am currently reading Will Fergusons' "Beyond Belfast A 560 mile walk across Northern Ireland on Sore Feet".  It's been very enjoyable.  I agree What the Book is a great place to buy new and used books and if you are not in Seoul then they deliver from their online site.

Since I've been here I've read: A brave new world, 1984, Zen and the art of Motorcycle maintenance, The doors of perception, and a couple of course related political science books which would probably be fairly un interesting to many people so I won't bore you all with the details. Any further recommendations of good reads would be appreciated, btw are you all aware of 'what the book' located in Seoul but offering nationwide delivery service, they are awesome!

Your Republic is Calling You by Kim Young-Ha and two Civil War books: Battle Cry of Freedom and The Killer Angels, which is one of my favorite books.

I'm supposed to be a librarian, so I'm always reading a ton of books at once.^^
