Tic Tac Toe on crack. The kids know it as O-Mok. Students play in pairs. One student asks the other "What do you want to do?" The other student answers "I want to" and then makes an O or an X ont he board. Five in a row wins it. Boxes with stars are action boxes. I think this was in last year's book, but with this template you can change the actions/verbs.

A great puzzle for warm-up to have practice the key expression while guessing the picture!

Grade 6 Lesson 11 - "What do you want to do?" class survey

This was really interesting to see students' responses....the only problem you have to worry about, is if the students are actually asking the questions in English, rather than in Korean.

A short ppt lesson using the Peanuts characters in order to teach the lesson "What do you want to do?"   The students learn to identify certain activities like riding a bike, reading a book, and learn to use them correctly in a sentence.

Here is a fun auction game I used for period 3. Teams are allocated money which they may use to bid and "pay" for the sentences shown on the PPT. However, some of the sentences contain grammatical mistakes which the students must watch out for. The team that wins the most correct sentences, wins the game.

I'm using Beatles I Wanna Hold Your Hand.

Also considered Wannabe by Spice Girls and Strokes Under Control (uses "I don't wanna" a lot)

Also I play guitar myself which is useful as it means I can play the song at a slower pace so they can try to sing along at a more appropriate pace

Hi there other teachers

I was wondering if anyone is busy making a ppt for the story in the textbook.

If anyone has the images of the textbook, could you please upload it?

Many thanks

How did you insert animated buttons into your powerpoints?  I know how to set up comparison slides and animation between them.

here is a lesson i plan to use to teach a few different vocab words and practise 'What do you want to do?'. you could easily use it as review too.
- basic powerpoint game based on activities Mr. Bean does when he is running late for the dentist
- links to YouTube video it is related to
- pre-teaches activities that kids will need to recognise (can test for recall while watching the video)
- game to test recall/understanding- get kids to choose a letter (and say a word that starts with it if you want ) --> random slide (get points for correct answer, lose points for wrong answers)

*could use the intial slide show as a cue to play different game like cover-up, align the stars/connect 4, bingo, noughts and crosses etc if you want

i hope it's useful :)

I am finding the garde 6's a little dispondent at this late stage of the game. The only thing that seems to get them half way motivated is to play a game, but not even that works with some of the classes. Just wondering if there where any others out there that are expriencing this.

I have to agree.  I have been getting the same response from my grade 6 classes.  I don't think it will improve as we nearing the end of the year.  I am just keeping up the good spirits and every little bit I get from them, I take it and I praise them.  Hopefully that will help in the long run.  Good luck to you.

here's a mario bomb game i put together with some animated gifs for various activities.

Uses :What do you want to do? --> I want to (play soccer).

Thanks for the Mario game! I often use them in my classes, but I've never seen one with animations. Not to mention being able to make one like this myself.

But just a tip, instead of "Enemies attack. Loose all points.", I allocate a cetain 'action' to each of the characters:
1. The time bomb means you loose all your own points.
2. The bullet means blowing up another team's points.
3. The venus fly trap - steal 2 points from each other team.
4. The ghost - switch your points with another team's (non-negotiable, because your team might have the highest score).
5. The mushroom - switch 2 opposing teams' points.
6. The beast - steal 5 points from another team.

My kids love the variation. In fact, when I make my own Mario games I tend to use much more of these 'gamble slides' than is typical.
