At risk of too many YouTube videos, I would add this classic scene from Jungle Book:  Whatarewegonnado?  I dunno.  Whatdoyouwannado?... The pronounciation is not clear, but students should learn to recognize these, because it's often how we talk.

Thank you everyone for all of the ideas! I feel it's time for me to start contributing. This is just a small practice worksheet dealing with the grammar of "What DO YOU want to do?" vs. "What DOES HE/SHE want to do?" Answer changes to "I want to..." or "He / She wantS to..." I'm using it for lesson 11-2. I plan to add some more questions to the worksheet.. I'll start the lesson by presenting the material and practicing/repeating as a class. Then have the students work in partners to circle the correct answers on the worksheet. I'll check to make sure everyone finished, then have them practice speaking the sentences in partners. They seem to enjoy making up their own answers also, like "I want to sleep," or "I want to go home..." haha so I'll try and get them to create some original dialogues. Hope this helps someone  :)

p.s. the second file is the finished one. You can edit it with your students names or any other verbs..

Basic Reading/writing Worksheet using this unit's target language.

If the worksheet looks dull and dry, its because I hate finding clipart so just scribbled some hint pictures around the edge and in the gaps prior to photocopying. Basic premise is that there are 4 answers in the grid, and they're arranged head-to-tail like a little Ouroboros. Students find and circle the sentences and transcribe them down using proper punctuation. Naturally with any such wordsearch or crossword style worksheet, student completion times vary significantly, so there is a bonus utilising the spare letters as padding.

Edit: As I was uploading this, I have been informed tomorrow I shall be desk warming. Groan. As such, if anyone has any requests for flashcards (glaring omissions from what's available online vs. whats in the syllabus) or the like, please feel free to private message them to me today and I'll start doodling away tomorrow.

The Jungle Book song is PERFECT for my sixth graders.  THey effing love cartoons (as do I).

I modified the black dog powerpoint posted at the beginning of this thread and made the sentences more uniform, also simplifying vocabulary for my students (who tend to be lower-level for sixth grade).  I also animated it to encourage class participation.

A little short story aimed at getting the thugs to settle down and write something! Proved to be somewhat popular

Sheryl Crow's "All I wanna do."

Not sure how to not make it double post, but this uses the key phrase pretty often. although a bit slangy

A simple sheet of word cards you can use for a "find your partner" speed game. Give each student one card. They have to walk around the class asking each other "What do you want to do?" and answer according to their card. If they find someone with the same card then say "Really? I want to (dance) too!" As soon as you find your partner come to the front of the class, fastest students are winners. At the end I'll make the class ask each pair what they want to do, and they will answer together with "We want to..."

p.s. the Blockbuster Game was awesome, thanks  8)

Here is the Korean translation for "If you want to sing out. . "I couldn't find the Korean lyrics online like you can do for most songs so I translated them and then cut out some of the English words to make a "find the missing words" activity.

I changed a Choose Your Own Adventure powerpoint I found in the middle school section of waygook to 'I want' statements. Good for lesson 4, the advanced students get really motivated whereas they are normally bored to tears. But co-teacher translation is definitely needed to keep the weaker students in the loop.

I came across a game on Genki English that would work for this lesson, though I have not tried it yet. It has two parts:

Part A) Make a 3x3 blank bingo card. Give one to each student and have them fill in the middle square with something they like doing/want to do (tell them to try to make it unique, not just swimming or soccer, but maybe something like eat curry or sleep until noon). Then they have to ask other students "What do you want to do?" If it is an answer they do not have on their bingo card, write it in a blank space. If they already have that answer, keep asking until they get something different and all the blanks are filled in.

Part B) Play some music and pass around two objects (phones, balls, whatever). When the music stops, the two students holding the objects have to call each other (or just have a conversation). Give them an outline for dialogue, example:
Ring Ring
"Hello"
"Hello, how are you?"
"I'm fine, thank you. What do you want to do today?"
" I want to _____. What do you want to do?"
"I want to ______."
"Okay, goodbye"
"Goodbye"

The other students must listen to the conversation and cross off the two things the students want to do from their bingo card. The first student who makes 3 across or down can call BINGO.

After fumbling around with the Genki Game, I decided to make it simpler for my students. They are just going to do Part B and I used a ppt template from Pass The Ball so they have the dialog to see. Before starting the game I will have them write down one thing they want to do so they can easily fill in the blanks. I also changed the "I'm fine" to random things like "I'm angry, I'm sleepy, I'm sad" When they see the word they have to do the dialog with that emotion. I really dont believe this will go over well with some of my students, but it will be amusing to me.

I made a little board game for this lesson. For pictures, they have to say "I want to ________" and they just read the written statements. Most of the kids just loved it, and it got the students that never ever speak to talk. It took about 10 minutes to play (when I planned for 20...whoops). It's on b4 sized paper.

These are the songs I used for my class.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YG_2bEyCye0  The animal song (I want to live like animals. You could also do truly, madly, deeply)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ztk9t_m1FpY  I want to be rich (Be careful cos the kids could confuse I want to and I want)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPm-ohAziuw&ob=nb_av3n  I wanna dance with somebody ( although the kids might ask you what feel the heat with somebody means...just tell them it means that you want to go outside and feel the warm air or something.hehehhe)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1Y16sD03dI   I want to know what love is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA5GkLM5C7M  I wanna love you tender (funny dancing and the music reminds me of old Korean disco music.)

Of course I wanna hold your hand and I don't wanna miss a thing are great songs too.

Hey, I made this pass the pencil case game. It should get the kids laughing and making phrases.

In my lesson, I taught using Kung-Fu Panda, and the lyrics are from "Cat Stevens - If you want to sing out, sing out?"

Made this game for the first period. First slides are for practice then after the slide says "Missing game" the next slide is to once again go over the pictures, then the game starts.
