RANTING/VENTING MEGATHREAD
« on: July 07, 2015, 02:15:56 pm »
Are you sick of all the complaining in otherwise docile, "family friendly" threads? Are you tired of threads getting locked because a few bad apples spoil all of the fun?

Worry no more! This is the thread for you! Complain about culture! Complain about how you stubbed your toe on the bed lst night! Complain about your back acne!

Don't like hearing complaints? Then leave! It's that simple.

I'll kick things off...... I let my second batch of makgeolli ferment for 9 days instead of seven and it was sour as hell. Still drinkable, but I'm disappointed in myself. Here's to my next batch............. Cherry Vanilla Makgeolli! 파이팅

I'd like to complain about this thread... and how BS it is that we seem to need one. Kudos to you for the idea, but I'm doubtful that it'll stop the complaints all over the site :(

Cherry Vanilla Makgeolli sounds delish, though.

I love the infomercial style. Very Oxiclean.

Also, why don't you send me sample of that Cherry Vanilla Makgeolli?  What's the percent on that?  Just one bottle will do. Thanks.  :-*

Once again a narcissistic member of the twiiter generation feels it necessary to share every minute detail of their droll lives with the global village. "I didn't enjoy that makkoli...better post about it on facebook, twitter and waygook."

Be sure to let us know if you burn your toast tomorrow morning.

You seem pleasant. I was just starting a thread for people to complain in. This is my complaint recently, it was incidental to the thread. I lead a pretty charmed life, honestly.

I'm also not of the twitter generation. Thanks for assuming though. I'm also not narcissistic either, I'm a pretty shitty person, in all truth.

Chirping in again when I'm not needed. The fact that you decided to share such a mundane story about your sad makgeolli prove that you are indeed a part of the twitter generation.

Anyways to stay on topic...:

I hiked 10 hours over the weekend + Monday (took unpaid day off since parents flew to Korea to visit), which for someone like me, is way too much. I am all tired and sore. I mean, I know my parents wanted to go and all, and I only saw them for 3 days, so I should accompany them, but mah legsssssssss. I'll post a photo of my mundane trip to Yeongam's Cloud bridge if I remember.
Open your mind.

Oh yes, this came out at just the perfect time.

I am so damn sick of the simple minded mono cultural society of Korea where people learn to shut their minds and view the world in a one dimensional view. They cannot understand multi culturalism and it makes me sick flipping back and forth between playing foreigner at school and finally being free after school. I mean, I definitely sympathize with foreigners who play foreigner involuntarily 24/7 during their time in Korea but it makes me sick to the stomach that I have to deny half of my identity and oftentimes even feign ignorance of the Korean language and culture at school. The result? I have to listen to other damn teachers blabber their stupid stereotype nonsense bull crap about foreigners and how Koreans need to learn English because they will never be able to do anything outside of Korea and how foreigners will hate them if they don't know English... (students turn to look at me as crazy homeroom teacher says this).
I got so sick of this today, in the only class where I can get away with speaking Korean, (because I teach it alone with only a few low level students) I actually turned the class into a whole lecture in Korean (to 4th graders... I wanted to open their minds a bit to feel some sense of humanity from these... creatures known as 우리나라사람...).

Teacher: In this world there are many different kinds of people, Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, white people, black people... (in English this sounds so twisted, yes, but Koreans view the world more like this as you know).
Teacher: If a white person didn't like Korean people, how would you feel?
Student: ...I don't know...
Teacher: How do you feel when someone doesn't like you?
Student: ...Bad?
Teacher: So how do you think you would feel if a white person didn't like you because you were Korean?
Student: ...Bad...
Teacher: Exactly. This is why you should not hate different people just because of what people tell you.

Teacher: What if a Korean was born in America, does not speak Korean, yet his parents are still Korean, but he knows nothing of Korea and speaks English only... is he still Korean?
Student: ...I don't know. What is (that person)?
Teacher: Tell me what you think. Think about it well.
Student: ...I don't know.
Teacher: Okay, what if an American person was born in Korea, speaks only Korean, goes to a Korean school and mingles with Korean friends... Is he American or Korean?
Student: ...I don't know.
Teacher: Yes, now what about a person who is half Korean and half American? What do you think that person is?
Student: ...I don't know... but when teacher speaks English teacher looks like foreigner and when teacher speaks Korean teacher looks like Korean...

The talk went on longer but point is... I was just so stressed out today I wanted to teach a Korean child to critically think about race... Maybe I took it overboard... but I think taking 20 minutes of a class to teach a child to wonder about race, nationality and identity is important to undo the stupid brainwashing of this society that teaches them "You are Korean, so you do this and that, they are Foreigner so they do this and that..."

Let me say this again, my complaint was incidental to the thread I started. We al know how the threads have been going recently, so I decided to maker a place where getting into arguments and complaining about things wouldn't derail or go off topic.

I could have said my first two paragraphs with my infomercial-esque banter and left it at that, sure. But I decided to put my money where my mouth is and start complaining.

TL:DR I didn't start the thread due to my makgeolli, I started it due to locked threads and moderator heavy handedness. I'm done discussing this specific point.

Having a car would make my commute shorter and more tolerable, but the prospect of obtaining a license and a car all on my own here is daunting, and Korean traffic terrifies me.

First world problems, I suppose.

Jesus tapdancing Christ, who burned yours?!

My insane coteacher sent me a flurry of angry CoolMessages today because she thought I was skipping the review portion of class. When I pointed out to her that I had no choice because she sat down at the computer (that's connected to the TV/monitor) and started loading the CD, I got to have the following conversation [edited for clarity]:

CRAZYBITCH JONES: "u should do ur job"
ME: "I don't know what you mean. You sat down and were using the computer. Usually, when you do that, it means that you are starting your portion of the class. I could not use the PPT when you were using the CD."
CRAZYBITCH JONES: "u dont need use PPT"
ME: "You asked me to prepare a PPT and I was planning on using it. Again, you were in my way. I can't read your mind."
CRAZYBITCH JONES: "u should ask questions for students"
ME: "Why are you starting this ridiculous argument? Please stop bothering me with this nonsense."
CRAZYBITCH JONES: *20 mins later* "STOP TALKING"

Bitch, I did. LOL. Then she walked around the classroom muttering to herself.

Only three more weeks of this lunatic...

What's the deal with the way that all parking spaces are compact car-size, when most people have SUV's? I have a compact car and everytime I park it's impossible to get out of my car because there's some Ssangyong Ajeossi Premium parked halfway in my space.

It's not that hard, worst thing is the driver's license office and car registration office having hours that aren't conducive to people with jobs.

Much like pretty much everything else here.  But don't worry, you can get a bad cup of coffee at 12 am.  But, not 8 am.

Parking etiquette here can give a saint homicidal tendencies. People sandwich you in such a way that their bumper is practically touching yours at both ends.

I've lost count of the amount of times I wasn't able to walk in front or behind my car when it was sandwiched like that.

The other peeve I have is the blatant lack of regard for other peoples' vehicles. Back when I had a motorcycle, I once saw some girls taking pictures on it.

Someone else dropped cigarette ash on my seat, burning a hole into it, they should thank the gods I didn't see them do it because I would have made them either eat their packet of cigarettes or pay for a new seat there and then.

Another time, some dumb asshole tried to move my 250CC wheel locked motorcycle just so he could squeeze his delivery bike next to it...he needed a change in underwear that day. He was one of the few unlucky ones I've had the pleasure of catching in the act.

My car has a few tiny dings and scratches positioned in such a way they could only be done by car doors or someone driving past and not paying attention. One that really had me fuming for weeks was the scratch that happened 3 days after my car got a new coating.

Rant semi-over!

I'm going to rant about some obnoxious group of posters who really want to rant and complain, despite warnings from moderators and distaste from many other members. We don't want you to do it here. You can do it elsewhere. We don't want you to complain that moderators are not doing their job. We definitely don't want you to take over this site and suggest you have the capacity to even pretend you can choose your own moderators. We hope you find a new site to spew your nonsense on and go away.

Don't complain just to complain (rant). Don't start anymore threads about it, don't pretend to start thread on something else while starting threads on it, and please stop long chains of quoting quotes and ranting on threads that aren't intended to be rant threads.
