Even though we were no longer talking about the specific racial slur in question, the thread was intended to be an overall discussion on what is or isn't considered offensive and where lines are drawn in society. It was an interesting conversation and I'm annoyed that the mods felt the need to stamp out a dialogue that wasn't creating any issues. It's ironic that the mod who closed it down quoted the TOS as a reason, yet "material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing[1], obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or adult material" can all be completely subjective, which is precisely what we were discussing...Instead of locking threads, why don't we penalize users for being dimwits. "Oh, those 2 users in that thread are being offensive/off topic/dimwits/etc. Better lock a thread that hundreds of users are enjoying and discussing and contributing to!"Just rap the instigators on the knuckles and let the rest of us debate on in peace.

a thread i made about locking threads on here was even locked. how's that for irony.http://www.waygook.org/index.php?topic=88065.0the mods on here are supremely lock-happy. as i've pointed out before, it's the lazy way out, because it means they don't have to do any actual moderating. i thought all the new mods were supposed to solve problems like that. guess not.

I've seen it happen on multiple occasions, and I it pisses me off when someone silences me or others after getting in a snarky last word of their own. There wasn't even a warning on the thread to stay on-topic, and someone got dinked for swearing even though the word was blocked out??? Ridiculous. Yes, there was a slight deviation where a few sarcastic comments were made in succession, but we were all having a laugh; no one was being harassed, and the discussion would have picked up as there were still unanswered questions/topics that had been posed.

I just noticed my comment stating that someone shouldn't get a warning for a *ed (Starred) out word (and how our new mods could maybe do with a little more training on understanding this previously declared Waygook policy) was deleted. FFS. That is rude and childlike. If there is one thing I've learnt by moderating other pages, it is that you don't rule by clandestine behaviour. If someone gives you fair criticism, you take it on board. You don't worry about perceptions and operate covertly.
I've just noticed I've got 'being watched' for responding someone's 'village idiot' with the same tone as they made a typo in their insult message. It was rather fitting and humorous in context. And nothing but a bit of banter (as the other person also said in a PM). I know what mod did it. She's a little wet behind the ears and she's possibly letting things get personal as I called her out on giving an unnecessary warning for the starred out word of someone's post (which she also deleted and which I also called her out on). Also, I find it hilarious that after she gave both of us 5%, she went back the next day and added 20% to that (with out any message). Imagine doing that? Imagine giving a warning, deliberating, then giving more the next morning. And for the record, 25% is too much for what was written. I do hope you learn how to mod with an even keel. I don't want to bellow 'man, when can we get modding right?', as maybe modding will never be right for some. But let me give you some advice that I hope you take to your heart. When you mod too strongly, when you act in clandestine ways, that's when the forum turns and that's when we get the mess we got 2 months back. I hope you heed what I'm saying as I'm not just saying it to be irritating to you. Ultimately, I do not care about this warning. I do care, however, about your future behaviour and how it will affect this community.

Had to kick all the kids out of my afterschool classes... they were too "high level."Lets forget about the fact these kids actually wanted to be there, and had motivation to learn. Too bad for them....Now they say it has to be a phonics class. Like abc level... but what to continue teaching them difficult material???So now, not a single kid wants to join, because at the 5th 6th grade level, the reason why these kids don't know there abc's is because they DON"T CARE ABOUT ENGLISH!Of course I made some suggestions.... about changing the class to an English Drama club. Something fun, where the kids don't feel like they are their for "learning" English.NO! They can't learn reading and writing and thats the most important part of langauge!Ummm what about speaking... I don't hold up a sign to communicate with people.... Logic. So now they are arguing about what to do, but you know, the Native speaker, and someone who majored in Language, that opinion is totally worthless and we shouldn't ask for ideas from that dolt..... sparkling.*Mind my errors, I'm rage typing, and don't care.

How? Am I missing something?Sucks you don't get much say about your classes, but I think if students at that age can't read or write English, that's probably a good thing to do in class.
Something I've been pondering for a while, what is the point of Koreans changing shoes before entering school? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it, since it extends the life of my shoes, but the kids and staff walk on the field and the wet concrete, wearing the indoor slippers. It's the same baffling story when I go to gym. Japan is a lot more strict about it, making the entire exercise logical, but over here it's just pointless.
Jesus, so I had enough today.Exploded on the boys in my 6th grade.Trying to get them to pay attention, just openly mocks me, rest of boys laugh, start throwing paper, ask them to stop, laugh at me tell me to be quiet in Korean, and mutter shibal...yeah...So Just started blew up on one till he cried, made the others clean the whole classroom in front of the other students...I don't care if I get a warning or fired. After 5 years of this crap...Seriously, I don't care if kids sleep, I don't care if kids write or speak... they can do jack and learn nothing for all I care..However, when kids blatantly disrespect me, in a way they would never act or talk to a Korean teacher... game over.
