He's over in some other place working on the South Africans.  He's trying to get them to migrate en masse to China.  Apparently their two countries are quite close and South Africans are revered in China.

It's Friday. Time to be pointless (the weekend).

Why is the same Swiss wheel of cheese at 7-Eleven as at a local supermarket half the price at the convenience store?... i've been hammering that for months.

There was a lot of snow on the ground here in South Gyeongsang province last Saturday. It has been 14 C at noon thereafter.

Mice/rats are the most disease-spreading mammals in urban areas, so cats counter.

In cities like Istanbul, cats are never kicked or shooed away. In Thailand, cats are a mainstay of restaurants, lounging everywhere. In Egypt, Turkey, Thailand, ... there is a practical and social component.

Dogs protect and alert; cats dispose of farmers' pesty mice and birds. These historical reasons for domesticating cats and dogs have gone by the wayside.

Update on the Christmas charity thing for single mothers and children.

So of course there's KUMFA, but that organization is known not to support children from foreign women, even if those children have Korean blood and Korean citizenship.

EMC (Every Mother and Child) was created specifically because of this. They don't discriminate. If a mother and child in Korea is in need, they'll help them.

There's also WINGS, they've got an annual Christmas drive for kids:

Like I said before, you'd be better off doing things for kids for Korean New Years holiday.  Christmas isn't really all that important to Koreans.  Give the kid some money and some food for Seolnal (New Years) next February.  Give a simple toy for Christmas if you want though.  But Christmas isn't big in the eyes of people here.  Most of you living here a long time already know that.

Do you live in a box and only leave to drive to work?  I suggest  you actually try to make some Korean friends rather than just referring to everyone whose posts you read on a website as your friends.  My Korean friend decorates her apartment and has a Christmas get together every year.  It's a huge deal for the little kids.  I buy them big gifts from Costco and go leave them outside their door Christmas morning.  They are told that the gift is from me, but that Santa delivered it.  It is a big deal for kids these days, even if it is not what it is back home.  What a Scrooge.  Suggesting people are wasting their efforts giving little kids that would get nothing otherwise a gift is the height of being a miserable dick.  Are you the grumpy old foreigner other people avoid because you launch into a litany of complaints as soon as someone says "How's it going?"

Can do both!

Anyway, Christmas is the biggest thing on my 8 year old granddaughter's calendar. She still believes in Santa and it's more important to her than even her birthday. She's coming tomorrow to put up the tree with us. She even wrote Santa a letter the other day. From what I gather, more kids are embracing Christmas and are pretty blase' about traditional Korean celebrations.  You don't get it at all HG 77.

You would think with how he keeps bragging about his income he would do both.

Sounds Fun Jethro.  Kids get so excited about Christmas it's infectious.  It's definitely grown a lot since my first Christmas in Korea in the late nineties.  It was pretty much nothing to Koreans back then.  Although, Namdaemun market had a shop that sold nothing but Christmas decorations so we loaded up and decorated our home.  Having a little Korean nephew and niece brought me back into the spirit even more as they get so excited.  I love getting big gifts for them and watching their parents try to figure out where they will have space for the Super Mario race track or ice cream stand I picked up from Costco.  Perhaps HK77 should wander through the Christmas decorations and gifts at Costco.  It's not all there for foreigners.

Quote
On Monday, the Ministry of Personnel Management reportedly distributed a document to all ministries on the ethical conduct of national public service officials and specified guidelines for public officials’ personal internet broadcasting activities.

The report states that a public servant must obtain permission from the appropriate authority before engaging in any type of livestreaming activity.

Will this affect public school teachers with YouTube channels? I sure will miss the "I did xxx with my Korean BF/GF" videos if teachers' channels are taken down.

They keep mentioning "livestream" and adult content, so I hope that isn't what they mean by that.

Common sense says it wouldn't apply to YouTube channels like your own.
