I remember back in '06 when Rho Mu-hyun's administration flooded the nation with public school waygooks.

I had the pick of the litter in terms of hagwons and snagged me a 4-day Fridays-off 4-6:50 pm daily, 12-hour a week (never more than 18) hagwon gig for 2.6.mill. It lasted three years. All hail supply and demand!

The ESL industry in this country has surged and dipped. It certainly is far from dead as long as Korean moms exist!

The number of Korean moms is also trending down (i.e. low birth-rate).

South Korea’s national fertility rate – the average number of births a woman records during her lifetime – hit a national low of 0.88 this year.

So, end of year. We're watching Home Alone 2. I have a question.

WHY do my students have to say things? Mr. Duncan (older guy, owns the toy store) appears and there's always a few students, in all my different classes that say "아! 할아버지!"

Like, why? Everyone can see the TV. We all know. Do you think it's the effect of those inane TV shows of people doing ho-hum stuff and then 5 people watching a feed of that and then they talk about it?

Same with so many things in the movie, 비! 택시!

Just, why?

I've always wondered about this. Chicken or egg. Does Korean media reflect average Korean reactions, or have Koreans picked up these things from watching TV?

Like anytime an image of food is shown and everyone in the class flips up "ohhhhh. ahhhhhhhh 맛있다", even if it's just some bowl of slop. As seen on any TV show about food. Or what I like to call "the overdramatic single clap while laughing" that is especially popular with females here. I noticed Korean students I taught back home did it, then I cam where and saw people doing the same thing on TV. My wife does it too sometimes.

the overreaction thing, yeah. also...terrible lighting. my wife and her mother in law are quite happy to turn all of the ceiling lights on first thing in the morning, or late at night. it's honestly brighter than a hospital. but i've noticed k-dramas do this too

I think, worst case scenario, that these shows would teach kids that their thoughts about anything, at anytime, should be spoken aloud, no matter how trivial.

"Oh! He's sitting down! He's looking in the drawer! What is in the drawer? Hmmm, I want to know what's in the drawer. What do you think is in the drawer?"

Like, STFU, seriously. haha

I thought waygook banned all mention of that movie?

You are like Lieutenant Gorman in Aliens in the APC, when he gets hit on the head with a box when they're escaping from the facility.

The only Alien movie I've seen is Prometheus and Alien: Resurrection  :-[

Please don't hurt me.

What? Why??
I liked that movie!
Although, I was kinda confused, watching it, as it wasn't anything like the book at all...

CO2, I love you.  Really.  But our bromance has taken a hit.  Alien and Aliens are seminal films to watch.

I've never seen a Rambo or a Rocky movie, either. Ever.

Gonna see Cats on Sunday. But then Wildlife after so that I can cleanse Cats out of me.

To be honest, our bromance triangle has got a little bent out of shape now.  The problem's not you, it's me.  I just think we should see other people.  My career is just super important to me at the moment.

Gonna see Bridget Jone's Baby on Sunday. But then Love Actually after so that I can cleanse Bridget Jone's Baby out of me.
