And this is how Captain Planet porn came to pass.

There's pretty much zero chance it didn't already exist.

I'm sure they have fan-made ones, like with flash and other animation programs.

Is there an actual live-action porn, though? I want to google it, but not on this computer.

Final class of 6th graders arrived with 80% of the class crying their eyes out. Their HR teacher is taking maternity leave for 6 months and they're upset she won't be around. I gave them the lesson to write letters to their teacher.

My CT and I discussed that while it's cute and touching, it's also rather strange and slightly disturbing.

Many of the students see their HR teacher as their mother, which raises concerns. I don't think a child gets that emotional about another mother figure unless the real mother figure is somewhat lacking and/or absent.

The other possibility, which my CT believes, is that this is one of those rare occasions where I got to witness mass hysteria first hand.

Why do Mayonnaise bottles not have any nutritional information them? Seriously, nothing.  But then the 1/2 mayo bottles have the number of calories stamped on the front of the bottle and no other nutritional information. Am I just supposed to guess?

Next time you are in a 7/11 or the like look at those banana milks. The normal ones have like 250 calories in them and the LIGHT ones have like 249 calories in them.

I really want to make a nice tuna sandwich but I just can't play this mayo roulette.

 do yourself a favour and order 멸추김밥 next time you go to 김가네

멸치 + 고추장

Hm. I thought you were just misspelling 멸치 at first. I can see why they would've been confused. But if it's literally on the menu, they should probably be able to understand.
Blame corporate for putting such a dumb portmanteau on there in the first place.
it's like one of their most popular kimbap items

it's like going into mcdonalds, asking for a big mac and the worker not being able to understand, so i don't know

mayo roulette.  ;D

Mayo is so easy to make, and if you are concerned about calories then all the more reason you should whisk up your own in 2 min.  because your homemade mayo won't contain any sugar or preservatives.

Oh if you are really into the pommes FRIETekes  then you ought to add lemon juice as well, those crazy Belgians like it that way, soury lemony mayo draped all over on top of their fries.

Catch students smoking.
They run away.  I chase them (because I don't know their names so I can't just report them later)
A group of teachers look at me like I'm mental.
Tell my coteacher what happened...she just laughs.

The authority of the native teacher everyone

Update on this.

Turns out the students I caught smoking are all in the same class and they had their lesson with me yesterday.  I thought I recognised a couple of them but I wasn't sure because I didn't get a good look at their faces when I caught them smoking.  It didn't matter because not long after I had walked in I heard them laughing and joking about it.  Did they think I wouldn't hear/not care?

They're going to be cleaning the school corridors every lunchtime for a week  8)

Thought I was in a good mood today, but apparently some of the pissy from yesterday carried over. I've even shocked myself at how quickly the usual shenanigans have triggered my inner Mr. Haygood.

Honestly, the school has the students to thank for me not burning it down, yet. Their usual goofiness has kept the matches in the drawer.

Ungrump: I ate the first good brownie I've had since coming to Korea. I've missed that fudgy, chewy goodness.

To be honest, I think I'd be amused by you chasing after them too. You aren't going to stop them smoking, unfortunately.

Oh yeah I know that.  I just can't stand it when students (or people in general really) get away with doing whatever they like.

Side rant: I spotted Miracle Whip being sold at Emart the other day.

Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise and that vile concoction must be kept from Korea! Hopefully they won't develop an affinity for it, but I'm not holding out hope after the whole honey mustard debacle and yellow disc tortilla chip walk of shame. I can sadly see it catching on here.

I don't think I've ever seen this brought up before so here goes...

I don't think it's fair that high school teachers have the same contract as elementary school teachers in regards to "22 classes".  My argument is that 22 x 50 minutes is a lot harder than 22 x 40 minutes.

Thoughts?

Are you talking about for NETs, KTs, or all of the above?

I guess it just depends, on my view of things.

On one side, they're required to teach an additional 3.5 hours each week, as compared to elementary school teachers.

But on the other side, they have to deal with far less class management, with students who have far greater attention spans. Plus, KTs in high schools get paid more than elementary school teachers (or at least they do in the private sector), so that kind of makes up for that additional time required.

For NETs... no, it's not fair because there is no additional pay, as far as I know. BUT, from my own very short experience and what I've been told by others, high school is a lot easier to teach than middle or elementary school (I know not in all cases, some people have gotten very unlucky). Workload can be light... but then, it can also be quite high, depending on the school's expectations, which seems to vary a lot with high schools as compared to the lower grades. But I don't know.

all true chinguetti.  I wouldn't trade my academic high school at the moment for anything.  my students study for 50 minutes and it's lovely.  when I taught elementary, by Friday I was drained physically.  Now at high school, I'm drained, but more mentally than anything else.  high school has a way better atmosphere than elementary.  I always felt that Korean elementary teachers treated others similar to their students, if that makes sense.  If you're around a baby all day, then when you meet others you're still in baby mode and baby talking mode.  high school students are basically 'adults' so they are treated as such by the teachers.  I have a huge workload to I have 18 classes, two activity groups, night classes until 8pm from Monday to Thursday (paid extra), 40% of my students' evaluation, and the other English teachers are really cool so it's all wins, really.  extra 10 minutes in the class?  no probs.

My main gig is teaching in an elementary school but I've also been teaching a high school business english course once or twice a week for the last 3 years. I can't speak for anyone else but personally...

The high school course is so much easier. For this year I've been placed at an all boy's technical where many of the students have a very low level of English but their attitude and behavior is worlds above all but the best of my elementary school students. Last year I worked at a mixed high school with a generally higher average level of English and I also really enjoyed it.

I should note I teach 2 50 minute classes back-to-back at high school so I can't compare a full week of classes. The most I've taught at high school is 8 classes a week. That was a bit too much but I don't think I'd even consider doing half that for an after-school elementary school class.

One of the big reasons I've never requested a transfer to a high school for my main job is because I've been here long enough to see how the hiring and firing cycle goes and it seems high schools get cut first.

Yes to clarify I was thinking more about NETs than KTs.  Interesting replies, thanks both (EDIT: and Robin)!

Even though I do feel it's a little bit unbalanced (it effectively is more work for no extra pay) I don't think I'd trade my high school job for elementary.  That's purely based on what I read here.

Unless...I could have one of those tape recorder jobs that I read about.  I think I'd really enjoy switching my brain off for a year (as long as I could go back to high school afterwards haha).

Anyway just thought it was an interesting topic that I've never seen brought up on Waygook.  Hope we all have a good Friday!

I teach at a middle school, a high school, and 2 primary schools, and I gotta say, of the three I find that the highschool classes are the least amount of work.
Sure, they're 10 minutes longer, and there's a lot more grammar, but as previous posters have noted, the amount of classroom management is a whole lot less.

Personally, I really enjoy the full range of student ages that I get to teach. Primary classes are a lot of frenetic fun, and being able to have conversations and actually getting to know the highschoolers is pretty cool too!
