SMOE Renewal for August 25, 2015
« on: April 29, 2015, 03:27:48 pm »
In the past, the renewal process was completed prior to the end of April.

Any info on when the renewal process is to begin or if it already has would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

It is currently happening. 서부 is a bit delayed apparently. But you should be getting documents this week or I'd be chasing it up next week.

I recommend joining the SMOE Facebook group as Jon keeps everyone really really updated on all types of info.

My head teacher received information for my renewal this past Tuesday.  She said many schools have lost funding and won't be able to renew their native teachers.  Our school is fairly large so we will be getting funding, at least for another year.  The documents said that classes for renewal evaluation should be done between May 4th - May 22nd.  There were no changes regarding contracts (other than there being no renewal bonus starting 2016 as most, if not all, of us know).

I wish there was a different way to relay information for people who aren't on Facebook.

Thanks for the replies.

I know my school won't have funding, so it sounds like the schools that won't, aren't asking/offering renewal.

I hope that is not the case, as I would like to remain for one more year via transferring to a school with funding, that needs a teacher.

To bbo, if the updated http://etis.sen.go.kr/index/index.do that would be great.

Hmm.. I thought they would still offer renewals for teachers at schools without funding to fill the positions of schools that will get funding.  I'm thinking the chances that all those schools' teachers will renew aren't 100%.

I really do wish they'd update the SMOE website!

Always have a back up plan. Some invest their future into Korea. They will eventually get burned.

I agree with this, but the reason it was put on Facebook because it's actually unofficial. Jon wanted to make  a wiki or similar website/forum for SMOE teachers but the red tape was too much. This was his little unofficial-official side channel.

China is calling.  It's only in it's early days.  So, lots of BS mixed with good jobs and contracts.  Like Korea at the beginning of the 1990's?

Anyone who is getting transferred should've been contacted this week directly by phone.

On June 11 we were told that the drama with MERS might cause delays with schools giving you renewal outcomes, but I believe by now you should've got information (if your school is open that is).

The current stage of the process should be that teachers are informed, they should be starting to think about doing the health check (although it's been okayed to delay this a little -but no official word really- because of MERS)
