LOST MY WALLET!!!
« on: April 29, 2015, 09:42:45 am »
I just lost my wallet. It must have slipped out of my pocket when I was in a taxi this morning. It has everything in there. Korean bank card, UK bank card, ARC card, transportation card, UK driving licence. Luckily, there's only a couple thousand won in there.

Is there any way I can get my wallet back? I paid the taxi driver in cash, and I didn't get a receipt, so tracking would be hard. I've already called the bank to block my bank cards.

What should I do next?

Do you remember the name of the taxi company? Your next logical step would be to call them. If you can't remember, call them all. There can't be that many, right?

Go to a police station and report the loss.  Take a Korean friend to help with filling in the form you need.

Call immigration on 1345 to arrange a new ARC.

My boyfriend lost his wallet and it had his identity card in it, so the police called him to come pick it up. Perhaps, if it has been found, they will be able to hand it in to the police?

OMG. A miracle happened! The taxi driver called up my school, and said that he'll return it to me! Nice people do exist

I have heard that Korean banks will not refund fraudulent charges on the bank account. So anyone who loses their bank card should call the bank immediately to cancel it or else someone can just drain your whole account.

I lost my wallet twice in Korea and got it back both times.  Wrote up a little guide to help others who experience the same. Hope this helps somebody.

Well he is taking time out of his not so busy day barely making a living wage. 50 sounds like a solid amount to get back your George wallet, seriously, what's with all the back home ID and bank cards. Leave them at home.

I guess you don't have to pay if you don't want it back.

Dunno about you, but I didn't have my ARC or Korean bank account until 1-2 months later when I started.  How else can I prove my ID and how else can I survive?

So, you haven't gotten around to cleaning out your wallet yet but you were planning on it?

I'd say just call the police, note the situation (do you have it in writing that this guy has your wallet?), and ask for advice... depending on the police officer, they might have some free time and will stand around and look authoritative when you meet the driver, since he is refusing to return lost property/trying to take advantage of you.

or: Agree to pay it, and try to renege if possible. Isn't that how everyone does things?

Yeah. I was actually willing to pay him, but my ct kept telling me not to, and that there's a better way. Eventually, she threatened the taxi driver that she'll call the police. Now that my wallet is being handed over to his taxi company, they have a lost and found deliver service, which is only 15 000-20 000.

Also, I misunderstood. The taxi driver wanted 70 000. 50 000 for returning it. 20 000 for his travel cost.

The taxi driver sounds like a scumbag.  I lost my phone in a cab when it was late and I was drunk (not wasted and beligerent).  The taxi driver called a Korean contact in my phone, and sent it in the mail.  Only costed 3K.

There are good ones out there.
