i wish i still lived in korea! i would have loved to have gone to this event. shin dong hyuk's story is absolutely fascinating to me (and so, so tragic).

if you haven't read the book, or seen the documentary about him, i highly recommend both. the documentary has heart-wrenching 1:1 interviews with shin; where he talks candidly, and emotionally about his time in the prison.

I honestly don't know what to believe about North Korea. Is it true? Is it propaganda?

Is that a real question? You think whats happening up in north korea isn't true? Go ahead and read the book "escape from camp 14" or watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YTvvdPC2Ww and get yourself informed . North korea uses propoganda to make their citizens believe America and western countries are terrible countries and that their country is the best country in the world, so what they're telling their citizens is terribly false, but whats happening their is very true.  Liberty in North Korea and Justice for North Korea are both very good organizations to help and give support through donations, to help get people escape from this awful country.
I teach, eat, and travel through Korea and write about it. http://www.ashleyheil.com

There are terrible concentration camps in North Korea to punish anyone and their families who give the slightest hint that is against the regime. You can see them on Google Earth.

If anyone wants a copy of Escape from Camp 14, PM me. I have the PDF which can also be changed into a file suitable for an ebook reader.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisons_in_North_Korea more about these camps.

It is hard to believe how many people are starved and tortured only hours away from where we are now. White rice is a luxury there, but it always gets wasted and left on the table in the south.

I honestly don't know what to believe about North Korea. Is it true? Is it propaganda?

Thousands of North Korean refugees (most of whom have never met or heard of each other) saying the same thing suggests there is at least some truth to what they are saying.

Well, it's just my opinion bro. Not sayings it's bs. I'm sure there is some truth to it but try not to be so gullible and believe everything you hear/read whatever about it.

It's not so much as being gullible.

I have North Korean friends and I have taught/worked with North Korean refugees for 3 years now.
