Donga Ilbo: Beware of Foreign Men Who Offer You Drinks in Clubs
« on: October 30, 2014, 12:29:14 pm »
Translated quote from the article:

"In Konkuk University police science professor Lee Ung-hyeok's analysis, 'Women who see foreigners who appear in overseas movies and develop romantic ideas about foreigners or a curiosity about the exotic may let their guard down easily, putting them in great danger of being exposed to sex crimes.' "
http://populargusts.blogspot.kr/2014/10/being-wary-of-foreign-men-since-1876.html

So we're not as nice and harmless as we appear to be in the movies? Once again, Korean women are warned about dangers of associating with foreign men.

I thought jamming soju  down womens throats are a cultural necessity  here. Guess you have to be korean to be able to get a girl drunk and take advantage of her.

It's true that some Korean women develop some distorted views of us based on social media. The same way some individuals with yellow fever need to get their heads out of the gutter of asian porn. The article just hints at too much xenophobia nonetheless.

Yellow fever is real. Had it since 16. Nothing wrong with a preference.

Just a quick FYI: "yellow fever" isn't a preference it's a gross fetish

Korean women develop distorted views by reading the newspaper. Was the purpose of the article to entertain? If not it is irresponsible journalism. Perhaps I develop distorted views by watching certain categories of porn. At least porn isn't meant to educate or inform people so their professional integrity remains intact.

Why can't it be both? And what if he was born that way? Did you know rice queen is the term for a gay man with yellow fever? Is this also a gross fetish?

People still learn how to think about the world from how they see, the same way teenagers in puberty turn to porn to develop distorted views of sexuality.
As for yellow fever-- my opinion is that if you prefer Asian women that alone isn't yellow fever, yellow fever is about associating Asian women purely with one's twisted sexual fantasies that devolved from exposure to Asian porn with a lack of true understanding of Asian women. That's just my personal take on it.

"Yellow fever" by definition is a fetish. Doesn't matter if it's a gay man/straight man or a gay woman/straight woman. Fetishizing another human being is gross.

Well I've been fetishized a lot by both Koreans and even some westerners (mainly the K-drama freaks)... I can't say they were bad people though, they just had their head in the clouds.

I'm not saying a person is inherently "bad" if they fetishize other people. And of course Korean people are capable of fetishizing westerners too, it goes both ways. But that doesn't mean it isn't gross.

It is! But it is also a slang term for a fetish.

Can we have some actual definitions of the words you guys are using? I am really confused.

What is "yellow fever" exactly?

What is a "fetish"?

When I search for "fetish" in the dictionary, I am redirected to "fetishism" because the other definitions don't apply. When I look in dictionary.com, I find:

Psychiatry. the compulsive use of some object, or part of the body, as a stimulus in the course of attaining sexual gratification, as a shoe, a lock of hair, or underclothes.

With that being said, from what I understand about "yellow fever," it cannot be a fetish as a fetish talks about an object or a particular body part. I don't think havng a fetish of a human being in total is really possible, unless you assume that the person is an object.

I promise that I am really looking for clarification. Having an attractio to someone of a different race is not a fetish, nor is it abnormal. Genetically, race means very little. As a species, humans are very homogenous.

thanks ley_druid.... you beat me to my point.  Fetish is not the correct word to use in relation to yellow fever.  Yellow fever is a strong preference or desire (perhaps sexual, perhaps just attraction) for an Asian woman (well, mostly used in reference to women, it can be men, it's just not as common i think).

Oh please.

So a legs guy is "gross"?  A woman who likes a guy with dark hair is "gross"?  A gay guy who likes twinks is "gross"?  Please.

People are attracted to other people for a multitude of reasons.  Who are you to judge?  Everyone's a consenting adult, so you can clutch your pearls all the way to your megachurch, but there's nothing gross about it.

By the way, "yellow fever" existed way before porn was widespread.  It's the exoticism that is the attraction, not whatever you've made up in your mind about porn.  I say this as someone who couldn't be more removed from Yellow fever, by the way.  Live your life and try to stay out of others, is all.

It's not a hard to find men who view Korean women as objects to use for their pleasure.

While having a preference for Asian women is not a fetish, full blown yellow fever goes beyond that, in my opinion.
