SOUTH AFRICANs: Tax exempt for 1 OR 2 years?
« on: August 06, 2014, 08:28:36 am »
Dear South Africans or anyone willing to answer.

I have been working the past year at a public school (EPIK) and had tax exemption. So it was quite nice not paying any tax for my first year in Korea.

BUT I'm starting at a Public English Center in August.
My question is: Do I need to pay tax in my second year?

You're exempt for the first 2 years.

I'm a South African, i'm in my second year and i don't pay tax. You only start paying from your third year on.

You guys have to be very careful. My friend has to pay 700000won back taxes because in his second year, his public school exempted him from paying taxes.

My understanding is that in order for you to be exempt you have sign a tax exemption form. If you don't sign it you have to pay tax.

I myself have been paying taxes since i began and I am south african.
