I found that when I tried a class like this that it went more smoothly when students worked in groups of 3 or 4 as some are more confident in drawing, some in writing, some in coming up with creative story ideas. As always the best thing with a class like this is that it is something that students are generally interested in.

I appreciate the suggestion done for this comics lesson. I think it's a good topic and a way for students to express their creativity and exercise different learning styles. It should be a fun and exciting break for the students that work so hard on textbook work.

That said, this lessons was a complete failure for my classes. I teach in a very low level high school, and while they were very interested in the PowerPoint and talking about characters and comics and webtoons, when they got the paper in front of them they just did absolutely nothing. I wish I taught higher level students so I could use this activity!

yeah low-level students will completely freeze when you get them to try and naturally produce language. in situations like that i've found it best to write 3 options for each thing on the board, and just get them to pick one and copy it down. so for each speech bubble you would give them 3 short sentences to choose from, and they pick the one they like the best.

Just did this with HS 2A and here are some of the results (attached below). Personally, I think this is an amazing lesson, which I will use on my HS 2B & 3AB :)

Though, just as a suggestion, I used a PTV phase to introduce some of the words in the word list - words they clearly wouldn't know like "Combustion." This was basically two slides of the words & pictures of them to facilitate their meaning. I also let them use a dictionary

Thanks for posting.
