Hi, everyone. I just got accepted into JLP, and I need to send my documents in. Well, they are asking for a 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm passport picture. I've called Walgreens, Walmart, and some professional picture studios (They wanted 100s of dollars.) and no one takes official passport pictures in this size. The smallest is 2 in X 2 in. I contemplated taking my own picture and printing it off, but it says they must be "official" passport pictures. I'm wondering how everyone else got the 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm pictures in the US. Thanks.

p.s. I tried doing a Google search and a site:waygook.org search, but nothing came up where to get these outside of Korea and specifically in the states.

I wish my problems were like this.
Ko fills half his luggage with instant noodles for his international business travels, a lesson he learned after assuming on his first trip that three packages would suffice for six days. “Man, was I wrong. Since then, I always make sure I pack enough.”

I just used a pencil, a ruler, and scissors to reduce it to the right size. 2 in x 2 in is about 5 cm x 5 cm. You might also ask if you can get a digital copy of your photo and then later  crop it to the right size at home.

Go to a photo shop. (any will do. i have been to US Post Office, i have been to Rite Aid, private studios, and even Walmart). Tell them you need a Passport-Style photo.
if they say "no" its fine. just get a photo of yourself that follows the specifications, and (wonderful enough) save it to your computer.
Travel.state.gov has a program that lets you crop, resize, etc. your photo. and then save the changed photo.
here are the links.

I just used a standard US size passport photo. I didn't have a problem with EPIK or with getting my visa. They used it even though it was a little big.
But how do I know what to lick and what not to lick?

There also are passport photo apps for smart phones that'll let you choose the size you need (and some of them allow you to specifically choose by country without you looking up the size needed).

Yeah, the Post Office is a good place to start.  I think places like Kinkos and the UPS Store *might* also do it, but I'm not totally sure.

That's what I  thought, but my recruiter gave me a page on what makes an acceptable passport picture.

Thanks for all the help guys. Did you all print them on regular paper or was it glossy and then you just trimmed the sides?

Use a standard passport photo.  American size is different from other countries but no one cared that I used the American standard.  I just went to Walgreens and got the photos done, hand them in my hand an hour later.

Don't worry so much about it.

How to Make Your Own Passport Photos for Cheap!

Step 1: Take a selfie.

Step 2: Use any of these websites for a template. I forgot which one I used, but I had 12 2x2" photos for under $3.
There are options for any country, any size.

If it asks you to pay, try another website.

Step 3: Save that picture file onto a memory card or usb drive.
Step 4: Visit your local drugstore or any place that has photo printing kiosks.
Step 5: Print and cut. Done!

I went to Costco and a nearby post office in the past. It's really that easy.

All post offices set up to handle passport applications can do it for $5.

Your local mall might have a photo booth that can give you four pictures for $2.

If you have a printer and a computer, you can have a friend take a headshot of you, scan and print it on photo paper.

You are going to do well here.  JBL is a great choice. God speed.

For my EPIK application I sent in US passport-size photos that I got for like $10 at Walgreens. If Koreans want it smaller maybe they can cut it when they get it.

I hit up walgreens and walmart but they were going to charge me for official passport pictures.  if you just need ones for your visa app and for when you get here just find somebody with a decent printer and buy a little photo paper.  Any ok quality camera and a little lighting will take a good enough photo.  Or just pay the extra money for official ones.

When getting official official passport photos-the ones for renewing an actual passport- several of the drugstores would not take my pictures as they had had problems in the past with the pictures getting rejected.  But for anything else I need a passport style pic for they are just fine.    I would give my 2x2 picture and they would crop it as they wanted to.  Better the person who wants it to cut it their way than waste a good pic.

Remember to get several copies of them. I came with 8 and have just 1 left.   And you can smile as these will be used on everything from your ARC to school photos.  Better to have control of your picture than at the mercy of a subway photobooth.   8) 8)
