Need Help! Shipping Oversized Item Abroad
« on: May 28, 2014, 11:54:42 am »
Hi Everyone,

I really hope someone can help me with this as I'm at a loss!

I need to ship a package containing a snowboard to Ireland. It's 156cm long and weighs about 5kg. I've tried Korean Post but they won't take it because it's more than 150 cm in length. I asked at a few different post offices in the hope someone would take it but no luck!  :-[

Fedex and DHL are asking for more than 1.2million won which is insane!

Are there other services in Korea I could use to ship an oversized item like this abroad?! I'm leaving in August so need to ship it before then. It doesn't really matter how long it takes to get there.

Thanks in advance   ;D

Not sure if this is actually any help, but have you considered just carrying it onto the plane with you when you leave?

I was kind of in the same boat bringing my guitar with me to Korea, and eventually just decided to try my luck that way. It worked for me -- no one mentioned it when I checked in or boarded, and I just handed it to a flight attendant who stowed it away somewhere, no questions asked.

Depending on your airline, you may be able to get away with it.

Thanks for the reply bbNiks. Unfortunately that's not an option for me. I'm not going home after I leave in August so I have to somehow mail it home.

Why don't you take it with you?
Another country might have different restrictions?
Maybe the destination country has an online site you can look up?

I can't take it with me unfortunately- it has to be shipped as I will be moving around a lot. It's just not a possibility but thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks JGyopo- I'll check that one out!  ;D

Try Send My Bag - they ship skis and golf clubs, they may do your surf board too?
https://www.sendmybag.com/  I was looking to send a suitcase to the UK and they were one of the most reasonable companies pricewise. Good luck!!

Sell it. The loss you take will probably equal out to the cost for shipping etc....

What you put into Korea, is what you will get out of Korea; it will not spoon feed you.
