Clearly they're not hard at work manufacturing cheap crap in staggeringly excessive quantities for the rest of us to enjoy. Somebody needs to crack the whip!

Wind blows from East ( South-East to North-East) for the past couple of days. Never seen this clear weather, especially holding out for several days. Only happens during winter time. Even then, only for 2-3 days at a time.

Clearly they're not hard at work manufacturing the machines of war with which they'll dominate their neighbours and require in order to compete with the colonial powers of the West. Somebody needs to crack the whip!

Wonder what you check for your numbers. It's reading 30 for Gangnam currently on aqicn, and entirely in the green for the past 48 hours.

Lame insults aside, which app do you get 60 from?
The only reliable index I know of is aqicn , which lists Gangnam as 30. If you know of another, let us know! More sources = less ignorance!

https://www.airvisual.com/south-korea/seoul/gangnam-gu
http://aqicn.org/city/korea/seoul/gangnam-gu/

They're giving basically the same readings, but I think I prefer the layout of aqicn more. Still don't know where 65 is coming from...

Naver, on the other hand, is giving Gangnam a cool 8 reading for pm2.5. I'm sorry for doubting those who suggested Naver's numbers were skewed earlier... :-[

https://search.naver.com/search.naver?where=nexearch&sm=tab_etc&mra=blQ3&query=%EC%84%9C%EC%9A%B8%20%EC%B4%88%EB%AF%B8%EC%84%B8%EB%A8%BC%EC%A7%80

EDIT: But I see now their whole scale is different:
GOOD
NAVER: 1-15
AQICN: 1-50

'AVERAGE'/MODERATE
NAVER: 16-35
AQICN: 51-100

'BAD'/UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS
NAVER: 36-75
AQICN: 101-150

'VERY BAD'
NAVER: >75. The end.
AQICN: continues to make different health distinctions in increments of 50 or 100. Anything more than 300 is labeled 'Hazardous'.

To get a true scale of the issue I think this thread needs more pictures.
I'll kick it off with a picture my wife took of me last spring when I visited.

It  reminded me a lot of Blade Runner 2053.

Perhaps Korean soups as visual representation?

'Good'
white kimchi soup clear

'Average'
bean sprout soup foggy

'Bad'
soul-lung-tang white

'Very bad'
chew-aw-tang thick

Some real dynamic teaching right there. A lot of visual learners in this world.  8)

I dunno man, I heard that Airvisual was designed by hippy liberals. How do I know that it won't pollute my radiantly effervescent soul with it's evil ideologies?

Anyway, I'll give the app a look. I hate relying on only a single source of info, so this will be a breath of fresh air (so to speak).

The ACIQN website doesn't seem to work as well as it use to.  Seems to have problems in Korea anyhow.

http://aqicn.org/forecast/daejeon/

But, the map at the bottom of the page does show interesting trends of where the most pollution is.

Trying to keep it light here, Chingu~ :-[

My wife and I were lucky to give birth to a healthy, happy baby last year, but she does suffer from eczema, another malady on the rise, likely due to environmental factors such as air pollution and the like.

In a way it's a bit like the Trump presidency when eventually the abnormal becomes normalized.
I pity you guys.
For a long time I didn't think it would be possible to get out but I worked on a plan and it eventually paid off.
In fairness though I didn't realize how fucked up the situation was until after spending a few years back home I returned to Korea for a short holiday.
You really owe it to your kids to get out ASAP anyway you can.
If not, get as far south as possible. I noticed my mates place in Dadaepo a beach-side location in Busan, close to the ocean, wasn't too bad as far as air quality went.
