Chase the Vocab- Prepositions
« on: April 07, 2011, 12:35:04 pm »
I used the excellent powerpoint template from RufusW (concept by Amy Rodulfo) found at  http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,3718.0.html  to make a Chase the Vocab game using prepositions (on, under, etc.)

I'm using it for my middle school students but it would be great for elementary too.

Kindergarten?  I'm wondering if I could get eighth graders to follow what is going on.  Could someone explain how this is supposed to work?  I think I'm missing something.

Review the pictures on the slide.  When the students are ready, click the arrow button and the pictures will be covered up and move around.  The students then guess where they think each of the pictures are.
The "easy" slides are suitable for very young kids and the most difficult one is practically impossible so it is easy to find a difficulty level that is suitable for your students.

Can someone PLEASE explain how to change the images? The instructions included on the first slide do not make sense to me. I've been fooling with it for about 2 hours and I can't figure it out.

The problem I'm having is that I can't make the previous image go away. I delete it, paste in a new image, run the animation...and the old image is under the purple box.

I had to get around it by actually writing down the number of each picture in it's new order on a seperate sheet and then just quickly running through them at the end.
"Difference is, I walked out a winner. That's my key to success."

HI - if anyone has used this game recently, could you give me some advice on how to change the vocab around? I really can't work it out? Cheers.

Here's something I use to test and practice prepositions

First tell the students that this is a memory game. They have to remember where the cats are.
If they are in teams, the team which remembers the most, wins
Then play this story (and read it to them)
http://www.quia.com/rr/837928.html

Then I ask the Questions:

 - Where is the 2nd cat? (Ans: near/by/next to the flowers)
- Where is the 3rd Cat? (Ans: on the roof (of the house))
- Where is the 4th cat? (Ans: on the fence)
- How many cats are in the garden? (Ans: 4)
- Where is the 5th cat? (Ans: in between the candles)
- Where is the 6th cat? (Ans: in the bathroom, near/next to/by the bathtub)
- Where is the 7th cat? (Ans: in the kitchen, in the basket, near the mixer.)
- Where is the 8th cat? (Ans: in the kitchen, on the floor)
- Name the cats in her bedroom, and where are they? (Ans: Old Tom, he's on the chair. John, He's on her bed. Sam, He's on her de나.)
- Where is the 12th cat? Whats her name? (Ans: Dot. She'sin the living room, under the table.)
- How many Cats are inside the house? (Ans: 8)
- Where is the last (13th) cat? (Ans: In the Garden Shed, In her Magic couldren (pot))
- Whats his name? (Ans: Jo)

This is an old post, but if you are working on this game now and just as confused as I was, the images are hiding behind the background. So if you want to change them you have to move the yellow background image. Another option is to use this blank template and hit "send to back" not just "send backward".
