Tax deduction for spouse
« on: March 06, 2014, 02:10:31 pm »
Does anyone know if we can get a tax deduction if our spouse is here but cannot work? Do they count as a dependent? Thanks.

Yes, as long as s/he makes 1 million won or less; a deduction of 1.5 million won will be applied per dependent.

Is that done automatically or do I have to get the accountant to do it?

Provide your marriage certificate, they do count as a dependent. You will get a slight tax deduction for them. If they are studying while here, you get more, for paying school fees... even if they are paying them.

Teach this to your students... they'll thank you for it later!
