E2 visa transfer at any immigration office?
« on: January 12, 2014, 10:40:07 pm »
Hello,

For a specific reason unique to my situation, I was wondering if an E2 visa transfer for a new job can be done at any immigration office instead of having to get it done at the one your job is geographically close to? This transfer will be done after my current contract ends. Thanks for any input.

From my knowledge you only have 2 choices:

The immigration office in the jurisdiction area of your current workplace

or

The immigration office in the jurisdiction of your future workplace.

Technically you can do the transfer anywhere in Korea not in either of the above, but you risk being turned away depending on the mood of the staff.

I was told that I needed to change my residence to Seoul before my visa could be transferred..  (I currently live in daejeon, new job is in seoul).  Is that true?

I was also told that my visa couldn't be transferred until AFTER i started working at my new job?  That seemed strange to me.  Anyone have any knowledge of that point?

from personal experiences, you will want to do it at the closest immigration office to where you will be working in the future.

ways to prove this to immigration, is to use the new address you will have, or the new contract.
they will need to use the information for the ARC
