If you come back on a new E2 visa, does your ARC number from your old E2 visa stay the same?

Generally yes.   I have had the same number for about 11 years.
Please consider adding some info to your "Personal Text"  Like type of school, visa status, county of origin.  These little bits of info can help people help you.

Yes, even if you change visa status it will stay the same.

I thought it was supposed to but mine changed when I returned for my third year. Caused a lot of problems when I wanted to update bank info and change cell phone companies.

That's very weird..
what were the circumstances? Did you change passports while you were out of Korea and in between visas?

good question, we kind of did a farewell tour before we left a couple of weeks ago and checked some of them out. Our first place in Gongju is gone replaced by a new school of education building, not sure about Daejeon. I know our place in Gyeongju is there because I jogged past it in October. In Seoul the really nice villa we had in Hongdae with great view of the river was torn torn for a bunch of high rises. Of course our apts in HBC are still there.

No I went home after finishing my hagwon and came back 3 months later with EPIK. That's the only thing that changed. I was very confused when it happened because like most people, i thought the numbers were supposed to stay the same. (The first set of numbers didn't change though)

I left for 2+ years and then came back; both times with an E2.  My ARC is the the same. In the time since getting my first ARC, I got a new passport, so I don't believe that matters.

I was told that the first number after the dash relates to your age and gender too.

1= Korean male born before a certain year (I forgot what year)
2= Korean female born before year x
3= Korean male born after year x
4= Korean female born after year x
5= Foreign male
6= Foreign female

Mine changed, but that's because I switched from E-2 to an F-visa a couple of years ago.
