Passport valid for less than 6 months - what would you do?
« on: November 22, 2013, 01:33:16 pm »
So my passport expires next May so it's valid for less than 6 months when I start my winter travels. I can start the process to renew next week but I may not get it back in time for departure since it takes 20 business days plus delivery.  I'm going to the Philippines and Taiwan which both want at least 6 months validity but it appears they're not super-strict about it. What to do: renew and risk not getting it back in time, or travel and hope they let me in anyway?

I had the exact same situation and I renewed it in September or October.  In total, I'd say it took about 2.5 weeks through the embassy.

Is their a rush service? Pretty risky to go and hope for the best.

Yeah, there's rush service but it's not available for outside the country.

When exactly are you leaving to go out of the country for vacation? It sounds pretty risky to me to not renew it before flying out, so I would try to renew it beforehand, if I were you.

I leave on the 20th but I guess the best option for me is to renew and buy another departure ticket if necessary. Ouch.
