This is for the P sound, especially for higher grades

This is for the F sound, seeing that most Koreans confuse the F and P

Alphabet:B sound

It's the end of the semester so to kill some time, I did a 20 minute lesson on phonics with my 4th graders. It's all based around the Phonics Song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saF3-f0XWAY

First, I wrote the alphabet on the board. I had them list the letters. Once they got to "g" I had them stop and I went back to "a." I asked what the name of the letter was and what the sound was. With a little practice, it was easy and they went through each letter saying the name first followed by the sound.

Afterwards, I played the song once. Then, I did a little bit of a letters quiz. I pointed to the letter and asked the name, sound and word. After I did this a few times I played the song again. I did motions to each of the words while the song was playing and the kids liked that.

After the second time, I gave them all the "phonics song worksheet" and asked them to write the letters in the box. I played the song again while they were doing the worksheet. They should be finished by the time the song is over.

At the end, you can use the PPT to go over the answers or you can skip past that and go straight to the "quiz" at the end. I say the word and they tell me what letter is missing.

I made this worksheet because it's super simple and it was helpful for some of my low level students. The other students didn't seem too bored, which is good.

KidsTV123 has worksheets for the phonics song on their website also. You can find them here...

Hi

I have been teaching phonics to my grade 2 class for the last semester. My school asked me to focus on one letter a week so we do phonics, vocab, a song, writing and a game. The lessons do get a little repetitive but its what the school asked for.
Anyway, here are my ppts for each letter I have done so far.

The songs and writing worksheets I take from http://havefunteaching.com/
Also some phonics songs from http://www.dreamenglish.com/

Hope it helps!

Here's my 80 minute lesson for my first and second grade after school class. It focuses on the -an sound but also reviews the -ig and -ug sounds a bit, as I've covered those recently.

Here are some alphabet flashcards that I made. I will laminate them and use them for games and drills throughout the year.

The cards are modified from http://www.mrprintables.com/alphabet-flash-cards.html

Major changes:
Comic Sans Ms font - so that the "a" and "i" look normal handwriting
Larger lettering
Larger cards - 2 cards per page vs. 4 cards per page.

I also printed off these cards with JUST upper case letters, no pictures or words. I will print of lower case cards as well so that we can play matching card games.

Make your own airplane.

These powerpoints complement the Primary Phonics Level 2 workbook by Barbara W. Makar. This workbook focuses on long vowels.

I do 15 minutes of phonics practice with my 6th graders every week, because many of them have never learned phonics before and cannot read.

Here is a site where you can download a zip of .wav files of the letters.

I use it in my PPTs!
