Here are some words that you can use for phonics to teach low-level students. This includes a short PPT with a few videos on the last slide. After showing the videos, ask the students a few comprehension questions. Enjoy!

This will help the lower level students familiar with phonics.  Although it's translated into Korean, it is best to SHOW THE STUDENTS your pronunciation.

In general all of my students need help with their phonics. Thus, I have found these awesome and well done videos to be amazingly effective for the start of each class. You can listen while Kids get settled and then quickly go over the sound and previous letters in order. They are from the Hooked on phonics series, but you can't find them on the website only by searching youtube. com. I recomend youtube downloader because I would guess they may not stay up forever!

My students love the alphabet song from havefunteaching.com .
This site also has individual songs for each letter of the alphabet.

Thanks so much for the last few posts!!! Sight words are a must for these kids. All my afternoon classes are phonics so I love this thread. I made a reference sheet for my students. Hope its helpful for some of you. My fourth graders had a hard time understanding that the alphabet made sounds. so I made a little note @ the bottom for them.

Try some phonics. My kindergarters love this one.

We then color one of the letters of the alphabet with me reiterating the sound of that letter.

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you for starting this thread.. it's very helpful since I was always trying to find phonics resources on other websites which was becoming rather overwhelming...
anyway, thought I'd share some of the worksheets I'd managed to collect. I usually use them as fillers if there's time left at the end of the lesson

I've read many people have problems with phonics, and the pronunciations of letters.

I saw one of the teachers at one of my elementaries last year using the website http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/index/load.htm?f

Its an easy alphabet song that introduced the 'common' sounds of letters, and it seemed to help the class she used it with. So I looked it up again this year, and thought I could use it for my winter camps... because the principal decided that the students must do speeches. GREAT - a group of grade 1-6's doing speeches when they struggle with pronunciation - okay... so they do 1 hour of phonics and 1 hour of speech work each day.

So the ABC song from the starfall website was introduced, and then I made the Starfall ABC's ppt to show the students what the man on the site is talking about. I went through, asked them the letters, and the sounds, and then what the picture was. We then sang the song through using the ppt so they had visuals.

And then followed through with the alphabet phonics game which is using a Mario template (made by shane teacher - dajeon). The students were told they had to tell me 1) the letter, 2) the sound of the letter and then 3) the word we'd just learned. If they got all 3 right, they got the points. The 6th graders were allowed to help the 1st and 2nd graders if they needed help, but they couldn't help anyone else. The class was also told that if the other team answered out of turn they got minus points (so they'd get minus whatever the other team got. eg: answering team gets 5 points, the calling out team gets -5 points).

They asked to play the game the following day because they'd enjoyed it so much. It didn't seem like 'learning' to them, and its helping improve their pronunciation. Their speeches have improved already, and they only got the speeches on Monday.

The Alphabet Mario Game is awesome, my kids loved it.. used it for a few of my classes.

I also recently started teaching Kindergarten classes. For now, I have been concentrating on teaching them the alphabet (and associated words), phonics, songs...

I do this song at the start of each class. It's good and gets the kids up and moving. After 6 or 7 classes they pretty much know all the words to it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcTZ9Km7kCQ

I also play them this phonics song, which they love!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saF3-f0XWAY

Then I have them colour pictures of things beginning with today's letter, and trace that letter.

The 2 songs, colouring and tracing always take in the region of 40 mins.

Sheep, like all wool-bearing animals, instinctively travel north, where it's colder, and they won't be so stuffy.

www.starfall.com is also a really great site for teaching phonics and the younger students love it! You can follow through with each individual letter of the alphabet if you go here: http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/index/load.htm?f  I've found it also helps with alphabet recognition if you ask them how many A's, B's, C's, etc are on the screen. I use flashcards from here: http://www.kizclub.com/flashcards.htm after introducing a new letter to expand their vocabulary. At the beginning of every class we review the previous letter we learned along with the sound it makes and then review the flashcards. I turn the flashcard review into a team game where each team is awarded points if they know the answer. They go crazy if I only show them a small portion of the picture or if I show the picture quickly. Some of my students also really enjoyed these clips:

Hope that helps!! :)

Yeah I'll second that www.starfall.com has really helped with my phonics classes for the younger kids. Also the songs that teach vowel sounds ( at the bottom of this page: http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/index/load.htm?f) are really awesome for getting the students involved  :)
