Kakao talk on PC?

I've been trying to get it to work since I lost my phone in the summer vacation, but no luck. I thought if I'd wait until my school computer was reformatted i could get it to work but it still tells me it can't connect to the Kakao network. I made windows firewall let it through, and I don't believe the software the school uses (ahnlab v3) is stopping it.

I ge the same problem at home too, and over there I have a mac so I can't use the PC version, I'm emulating an andriod OS.

Anyone tried this, or can think of anything? I really wanted to use Kakao as a lot of my contacts are on it, and if I can get it before Chuseok it would be great but that's looking unlikely. Even if I buy a smartphone before then it's no guarantee it will work.

You need to verify your kakao for PC with your phone, so if you lost your phone, you'll not be able to verify it, hence it not working. Sorry.

If you buy another phone, and you verify your account (if you had it logged in with an email address) you can then verify it on PC and you'll be away laughing.

I do have a phone, just not a smartphone. It never asks me to verify. It doesn't even get to that stage.

On the emulator, it asks me to verify, and after I get the message and input the code I can't get in because it tells me I have a bad connection.

I use 'Line', it works on my phone, school computer and my Mac at home. I find it to be way better than Kakaotalk. It is not so popular here (being Japanese of origin) but I think it is superior. It is very popular outside Korea too and has more people using it.

is it possible to install it on an Ipad if you have it on a smarphone?

Have lots of friends on Kakou (which is it what its all about really) so I think making the transition over a bit .... meh.

Skype used to be higher on my list of things I liked, but the problem is that Microsoft is now trying to shoehorn Skype into... everything. MSN died because Microsoft is trying to shuffle everyone to Skype (god, account migration... what a nightmare of slap-dash execution and management-speak).


Skype now wants you to link or create a Microsoft account to/for your Skype ID, the ads all over "Skype Home" are grating, and I cannot stress how much I don't want to hear about Skype Wifi ever again. Ever.


I think the bigger reason Line, KakaoTalk et al are gaining in popularity is that they're adding functionality and ability to their services. Skype post-acquisition has languished in its features, removed some perks and focused on monetizing the program. Not to mention it's now squarely in the middle of the NSA revelations with its new owner Microsoft.

can we get back on topic? I would love to get in touch with some people I;ve been meaning to visit for months, but may still not be able to meet them (and perhaps meat them), if my current problem persists.

The quality of calls is way superior and the way it compresses videos is better for Android users. I sent a video to my friend on Kakaotalk and she could not view it on her Samsung phone, when I sent it on Line, she was able to view it.

It also works across all platforms on PC's and Macs

I use both but find Line more reliable too, never had a failed message like I regularly do on KakaoTalk

Are you using Bluestacks or another emulator?  I seem to recall Kakaotalk working perfectly on Bluestacks, so if you aren't using it, give it a shot.

If that doesn't work, your best bet is to post about your problem on the emulator's forums.

If you are on a real smartphone and it doesn't work, then you're really in a strange place, because that would be very rare.

Have you tried contacting Kakao about your issue? The support/contact page has an option for PC installation/login problems.
