Yes, they do seem to perk up when I put a picture of an alien on a PPT slide.  I'll see if I can incorporate these themes into classes.

See, I usually end the class with some light review game, and PPT is perfect for that.  I'm wondering if I could do something else, though.  Maybe I'll try pass the pencil next time.  Or, if I could work target language into an alien or unsolved mystery theme, that would be cool.  (I have to teach textbook target language)

At the end of my lessons the past few days I have been playing '10'. I used to play it in French class when i was a kid. The students can say 1, 2, or 3 numbers and those who get ten sit down. You can start over from one or continue with 11.

They seem to like it, it gets intense as they get towards the bottom few people.

I sometimes throw in a 'speed conversation' to practice the lesson vocab.  My classes are in groups of 6, so I just give them a 6 part dialogue which they have to say 'round robin' style and repeat it against the clock.  Fastest team wins.  It's effective in getting them to memorise, speak loudly and confidently, pronounce properly and do all that repetition that is so boring otherwise.  They are usually begging for 'just one more go' to beat another team's speed.

There are never enough PPT games, only not enough time.
