I tend to be informal with my classes, so I let them stay in their seats to debate.

You can take a vote on the topic, and have students sit accordingly. "Agree" on one side and "Disagree" on the other.

You could also have each team come up and present their decision formally if you wanted to. I just chose to keep it informal because my students are usually shy and, not the mention, tired.

sounds like my kids, and this lesson worked? My kids hate speaking (except the few who are good at it) I've been digging my brain for some kind of activity that can force them to speak

Most of the students in my class are very difficult, and they never pay attention. This is a good lesson for upper middle school or high school kids because it sets the stage for them to come up with good ideas to talk about.

There are a lot of topics presented in the PowerPoint that should get them thinking because they should hit close to home. That's the best way to get kids talking.

My kids are really difficult, but this lesson proved to be a good way to get them speaking. :)

This has become the best way to get my students talking, and thus, there is a sequel!

I used the same method as before: present the topic, have students group up "Agree" or "Disagree." Then I have them think up some good arguments for their position, and then battle it out with the opposing team.  :)
